Default Modding New z51

Hi guys, new to the forum and just picked up an 09 c6 z51 m6 in black last wednesday. Love the car but can't wait to start adding to it. I've always wanted a LOUD vette, seeing as most of them around here are all stock automatics, i wanted mine to stand out. From the factory, the car has the NPP exhaust, i was wondering when i install a new one, what do I do? Do I just leave the vaccuum lines in place (tie them up somewhere obviously) and unplug the fuse?

Also, I've been doing a lot of research the last week and this is what I have come up with for a setup (I Think) - Kooks 1 3/4 long tube headers, x pipe, probably hi flow cats (randoms?), B&B bullet exhaust, vararam intake, 160 stat.... thought this would give me a good start. If you guys wouldn't mind helping me out I'd appreciate it. I'm looking to make the most power out of bolt-ons, so let me know what I;m missing. I can't see supercharging a car with 380 miles on it....so that will be put off untill i get some miles on the motor...thanks for any help/input!

The NPP is a nice set-up so you may want to run the headers, cats and X pipe into the NPP and save yourself about $1,500 on aftermarket mufflers. You can buy a bi-modal controller from Sunset Orange Creations cheap, which will let you open/close the butterfly anytime you want it loud/quiet. Have fun with it!

If your going to run headers, I would keep the NPP until you have had a chance to run them a while.
For reference, I have Z06 mufflers on an 08, with AR headers/cats..You cannot not hear a stock NPP car idling beside mine. The mufflers are pretty loud when open with headers..

Go to the last post in the thread, I posted a video of Z06 mufflers at idle and 3K rpm..I was testing the sunset orange controller..

Default Keep the NPPs...

and add a controller. I have a Sunset Orange myself, but there are others, & they're as simple as it gets to add. As you add mods the car will get exponentially louder. Headers, high-flow cats, & a true x-pipe will make open NPPs plenty loud. If down the road you cam it it'll be way loud. I have NPPs on a cammed LS2 w/ all the supporting mods making 450+rwhp & with 'em open at 4K & up it's embarrassing loud, but in a good way!

Add the headers, appropriate x-pipe, and an Exhaust Commander Dash and run it for awhile like everyone else has stated. You may find it is loud enough and when the cops think it is too load you can push a button and quiet it done significantly.

Can of worms = Go 1 7/8's

It won't be long before you have a ported TB, FAST intake, Cam and then ported heads. Then you will wish you had the 1 7/8's

Save your $. You have, what I think, is the best exhaust system available for a C6. With LT headers, it will be loud enough to scare women and small children (might even scare some salty old farts). Add forced induction when funds allow. Or, at least, mod with f/i in mind. Not a lot of down side to f/i other than cost. Way more power with stock drivability.

I'm not gonna haggle over 1-7/8, may even say sure, why not, but when you find a FAST for an '09 LS3 equipt vette, I have to call you on that one.

I have the a black 09 C6 Z51 M6 with the Npp. I started with kook headers/cats and Vararam intake....it sounded awesome but you really have a hard time feeling the extrapower..I dumped the vararam intake and slapped on a procharger...It is a different car now.
Get the mild to wild remote for the exhaust so you can quiet it down when you want...(long trips)
I supercharged the car with about 2k on the tach...you could do nothing but the supercharger and you will be happier then all that other bolt-ons put together..

The NPP is an awesome system. My modded car is always one of the loudest when I attend the Car Cruises, but I truly love the option of toning it down with the flick of a switch.

Have you ever ridden or taken a long trip in a car with Bullets?

If you have NPP the you need to go with the B&B Fusions. You will want to quite the car down after a while of driving if you go with Bullets. We have done several LS3's . AR or LG Headers, Ported Intake &TB, Stat, Callaway CAI and tuning. We usually run mid to low 11's on this setup with LS3's. Give me a call and I can get you some very good pricing and try to point you on the right direction.

I have arh with npp. My favorite part is when the butterfly valve opens at 3k. The sound is intoxicating without the suffering of the low rpm drone. Wife loves it too.
