This is for all you race fans out there. There is a new entry level Formula Le Mans Class to go with the re-org in the sport. This is designed as a low cost (around $400K+ for just the car) stepping stone to break into the Upper Prototype sports car classes. For those of you who don't know, they are those funky looking cars that blow by The GT cars like they're just one of those idiots on the highway trying to merge at 45 mph! (Yes, even the GT1 C6R looks slow when they pass). Ok back to the tech, the new lower cost P class car will perform slower than the other prototypes but fastger than the GT cars. It has a true carbonfiber monocoque chassis that was designed for the Formula Le Mans class in Europe. The engine is the GM LS3 that looks to be mostly unchanged. It will most likely sport an expensive dry sump setup but the intake manifold appears to be similar to the stock one with some carbon workings to direct air into the throttle body. I was fully expecting to se some type of individual throttle body setup, but I guess not. They are claiming power levels around 430, so it looks like it's not far off the stock engines internals considering the racing exhaust. Check out the link, there are some good pics and a nice video that shows some driving. It's nice to see a prototype with the roar of a cross-plane crank v8 like the Vette. There will only be a few races next year for these car to test the waters but it worked for the entry level GT cars this year. So with enough interest, we'll see this become a full season class in the following year. What do you guys think of the vette engine in a prototype? These things should fly considering they're based on a low cost version of an LMP2 class car that can pull over 3G turns at speed and they typically weigh around 1700 lbs!
