Engine click when cold

Engine click when cold

Hey all,

I'm new to the Corvette scene, and bought an '07 about a month ago. Everything seems to be in order, but I've noticed that when you first start the car in the morning, or whenever the engine is cold, it has a clicking noise when you accelerate. It clicks through all the gears (A6), and goes away when the engine is warm.

Is this normal? This isn't my first LS2, and my other one (GTO) didn't click. Any help would be appreciated.

This is normal. In fact, if you listen closely you can even here it after it's warm, just not as loud.

Seeings how you have only had the car for a month, there is a small possibility that the previous owner did not use the recommended oil viscosity and that would aggravate the cold start noise.

BJK,

If that's the case, would an oil change with proper oil viscosity change that?

It will help IF the previous owner was using a heavier then recommended oil. 5W-30 Mobile One is the oil you should use. Wouldn't hurt to do an oil change now, if the oil on the dip stick looks dirty. It's an easy DIY if you are so inclined.
