Torque Tube Problem
I have a C6 auto couple, with 30k miles, it has always had a small vibration when you accelerate. It also has a kind of clunk sound when your in slow stop and go traffic, what I would describe on a older car as a bad ujoint. I had it checked a couple of times and the dealer said it was normal.
Last week it got a lot worse, between 2k and 3k RPMs in any gear, it makes a very loud loose metal noise and the vibration is very noticable in the steering wheel. The dealer says something in the Torque tube was coming apart, they have ordered a new one.
Could someone explain the difference in a torque tube and a drive shaft?

The driveshaft assembly consists of a short splined section on either end with a long aluminum shaft in the middle. The center section is attached to the ends with rubber couplings. All of this is inside the torque tube.
