V1 here too!, but that won't save you if you don't drive with someone ahead of you causing the cops to pop up on your new v1.
It does help to make you more aware and maybe slow down some.
Im running the 9500i and have thought about changing to the V1 but havn't really seen the reason.
Both have excellent range (V1 owners think V1s are better and vise versa) and quite honestly a radar will only save your *** to an extent. I use mine more for piece of mind that there isnt a cop in the area than anything else.
A radar detector is a tool, and like all good tools you need to learn how to use it properly for it to work accordingly. Both the V1 and the Passport 9500i are excellent choices. Personally I use a V1.
Once you learn the V1's arrows, you will never go back. The V1 plus a laser jammer, like Blinder extreme, is your best combo. Learn to use the tools and you will only be vulnerable to instant-on radar traps and airborne piggies. Have a good traffic attorney when all else fails.

V1 for excellent radar and LIDAR detection and Laser Interceptor for 99.9% laser jamming. That is simply one of the BEST combos for ticket avoidance. That will cost you about the same as a Escort 9500 CI but with vastly superior jamming capabilities. Granted you won't have the GPS false alarm lock out feature but there are some issues with that anyway.

U.M.
Well said...It is a tool and must be used as such. The arrows which locate the source can be very useful and can provide an advantage over other detectors...
Looking into a detector as well. Seems like the V1 and 9500 are the favorites. V1 is more sensitive and may warn you sooner but doesn't have GPS to kill false positives and warn you of cameras.
9500IX here, the GPS is sweet! I get so few false alarms. The red light camera warning is cool too. It has probably paid for itself 5-10 times over already in a matter of a few months.
Both the Escort 8500/9500 and the Valentine are great detectors, and both have more than enough range and sensitivity to help you avoid trouble.
Personally, I chose the Escort because:
A) I could pick up the Escort locally at Best Buy instead of waiting for it to come via post, and
B) I didn't see the value of the V1's 'arrows' for an extra $100, and
C) The Escort's display looks modern, whereas the V1's look like a Radio Shack refugee, circa 1981.
Seriously, you will be happy with either one. Pick the one you like best.
V1 here. Once you get used to the bogey counter (and how it can save your bacon) and the arrows, you will never go back.
I must respectfully disagree with a previous poster.
I prefer function over form and don't care how a radar detector performs in a beauty contest.
And Yes, these two features are worth the extra $100

function over form for me i that department. I like the fact that the V1 has been around for ages, is always updated. Like others have said the arrows and bogey counter are incredibly valuable.
I use it in combo with my Laser Interceptor Quad - like others have said, nothing is going to make it impossible to get a ticket, just far far less likely to succumb to common tactics employed by police.
