I just went for a drive on the hwy and saw my oil temps reach 232 and probably would have kept climbing. I did get omit a bit(legal speeds) but would that be enough? I was also moving at 2k @ 223oil temp. My coolant temp was about 210ish.
Is this normal or am I high temp? will messing with the fan settings have affected this? highway mind you.
It seems pretty normal. It depends on what type of oil you are using too. Ive seen mine as high as 240 when I switched to castrol edge. It runs much cooler with the amsoil and royal purple. Sometimes your radiator can get cloged with crud too and you need to spray it out from time to time. Overall you seem to be in normal range though.

help a brother out
Hmm sounds a bit high.. did you change the fan speed settings? On the flip side my DIC always says Low oil temp..around 140-150 is the norm for me
I did change the fan settings but I was on the highway at speeds that the fan doesn't run right? I did my oil change at the stealership so I asume it Mobile Uno.

The fan should run regardless of where your driving it if the temp is high enough. It doesnt really sound like your having a problem though. If it gets too much higher I would start to question it and maybe check your fan settings especially if youve changed them.
air temp was at about 80. I don't have the 160 thermo. I had the fan settngs turned up high but never looked at it. I got tired of the noise at stop lights so I had my tunner lower the settings. The gauge temp shows lower and coolant is good but oil is a tad higher. He's in town for today and that's it but I don't want to go back to him for this if it is normal. He would gladly adjust it as he is awesome but hes quite a drive away right now

You did not mention whether you have a stick or auto, it does seem to make a difference. If you track the auto expect very high oil temps unless you make some big changes like bigger radiator, good size engine oil cooler and trans oil cooler. With all these done you can probably get the engine oil temp to come in around 260 on warm days, trans at 235 and cooling around 210.
Our cars run very hot when tracked without many mods.
If you want to lower your oil temps I'd recommend a Z06 oil cooler. Direct swap in. You can either mod your existing radiator shroud with the mounting/oil line holes or buy a Z06 shroud and put it in. Z06 oil coolers show up from time-to-time in the For Sale section. On the street my oil temps run about the same as my coolant temps.
Some folks will say that it is overkill for the LS3 but I saw my first 2010 Grand Sport today and it is sporting the Z06 oil cooler from the factory.
Another option is to swap out the stock radiator for a Dewitts unit which has both tranny and oil cooling internally. Dewitts is running a 15% off sale right now with free shipping. The Dewitts cooling core is twice as thick as the factory radiator.

You DO NOT need lower oil temps than your current 230. That's not hot for synthetic oil. Hot is 300. GM doesn't even put on the idiot light until 320 to give you some idea. The z06 cooler is decent for the track, but the down side is that the z's typically don't get over 150-160 on the street which is too cold.

Your results will vary, I believe OP lives in South Florida. I see you live in Connecticut...completely different climate. Like the OP I also live in Florida and routinely see 190 oil/coolant temps on the street...not too cold. My neighbor's Z06 runs about the same temps as my LS3.
Unless the new 2010 LS3 Grand Sport is running some sort of oil cooler thermostat I'd be willing to bet it runs even cooler oil temps than I do given the high capacity of their dry sump systems.

my point is, if he's not tracking the car (road course), then 230's on the street is no reason for concern and there is no benefit to adding a bigger cooler. A lot of people panic thinking oil boils at 212 like water - it doesn't. (flash point is over 400 degrees) In fact more motors are hurt on cold oil than hot. (i.e. people getting on the power before they have oil temps warm)

Fair enough...I will admit it takes probably 5 minutes of driving for my oil temps to come up to 160+ with the Z06 cooler. I don't know how that compared to before the cooler install but I'm confident it takes longer now.

It really depends on aggressive you were driving. If you were just cruising(70-80mph) down the highway, I would say it was a little high. BUT if you were doing WOT or ran for an extended time at high rpm like 3-4k then it is completely fine.
A 160 T-stat will help lower your coolant temps when cruising on the highway which in turn will slightly lower oil too.
my stock LS2 Z51 runs 220's regularly on the street... if stopped at lights of in traffic it sometimes goes to 235 (this is all in warm summer air temps). At the track it went to 270 or so within 15 minutes of track time.
with the 160thermostat, water wetter, and lowered fan setting, I get up to 195 after a few minutes (out here in the bay area, where it's 65-90degrees 300 days per year) and it will sit right around 200-208 in traffic, around town, etc. In the dead of summer, I'll hit 215-217 and I thought that was really high. Glad to know from this thread that I don't have to sweat it until I get quite a bit higher.
My LS2 was routinely in the 230's at cruise on the interstate. 300+ on a road course. After the Z06 oil cooler install I very rarely see over 200 under similar interstate conditions and upper 270's at the track. As others have said, if you're not tracking the car, its just not a problem.
