Default Car running hot!

I was running my car against another car on saturday and i look down to see i was running around 245*. I didnt think much of it becuase of the runs i just did. I get the car home and shut it down. The next day i go for a ride air temp is around 60*. I drive around for 15 min and my coolant temp is reading 200-210*. After that i get on it alittle and then it starts to climb. I am seeing 215, 220, 225, 230, then 240. So i get it home and shut it down. I cant really figure it out becuase i ran it hard before with no problems now i cant even drive in town without it climbing up to 240 and still climbing. I have a Procharger P1sc and i upgraded to a dewitts radiator with a tranny cooler inside. I need some input so i can get this resolved thanks!

I know this sounds simple but did you check to make sure something isn't blocking your radiator like a plastic bag or something? I saw another post where this happened.

Also, could it be a bad thermostat?

both good suggestions. I was gonna say maybe a plastic bag. That has happened to me before.

Maybe a bad t stat because i was going and it was at 235* and slowly started going down and got all the way down to 212* so i was happy. Not even a min later it was climbing back up. I am just hoping i didnt mess something up because like i said i ran it hard before with no probs. THen i make four pulls in a row and it is doing this.

It was your post I must have seen then.

To the OP,
I just installed a 160 t-stat SLP brand for 24.95 with free shipping from Corvetteguys.com. I also have my fan settings lowered with my tune.

I'm running 178-199 degrees now in South Fla. Oil temp gets up tp 215.

Just FYI

That buzz may be your fan. maybe the bearing is going out and the fan isnt functioning when the temp starts going up.

Some things that can cause overheating: low fluid,t-stat sticking closed (very rarely do they stick closed, usually open) coolant fans not coming on, restricted airflow over the radiator, blown head gasket, air lock after filling for first time after work or from low fluid do to a leak, to name a few.

First check the fluid level (underfilled or airlocking from low coolant can cause this issue) Then check for leaks if it is low, if no leaks then suspect a head gasket.
Then you need to check to make sure it is trully overheating,,,,i mean just the gauge reading hot doesnt mean much unless its verified by checking the temp manually with a thermometer or touchless probe.

I will try and pin point the exact location if possible tommarow. Maybe if i go with upgraded fans and a different t-stat that may fix it. I sure hope because i would be running perfect then.

THe coolant was a hair low i did match it with the line. I looked for leaks on the garage floor but nothing. I am hoping its not a blow head gasket. But then again if it was a blown head gasket wouldnt i see leaks under the car also?

Blown head gasket may just leak internal..Check the oil warm, if it is milky looking it has water in it..Make sure your fans are working..Several on here have had the connector go bad. Then do a cruise at say 65 for about 10 miles, temps should be 195-200 on a 60 degree day..

I checked the oil, does not appear milky. BUT lets say worse case senerio it is a head gasket do you think the warrenty would cover this? I hear this can be pricy what would you expect me to pay outa pocket? Also is there anything i should avoid doing such as driving the car? I dont wanna make things worse because i will have to drive it to the shop and have it looked at.

If your procharged a head gasket will in NO WAY be covered under warranty. It doesnt sound like thats your issue though. Have you tried squeezing your radiator lines etc to make sure there is no air in there? I would start with the simple things and check your way down.

I figured it wouldnt be covered. I will prolly drive it one more time this year before i put it away. I will see what the temps do. Just worries me because before the 4 runs the car was runnig like a champ now i have to keep an eye on the temp. I will get it figured out thou it just may not be til spring.

Its probably something simple. Sometimes things that seem bad are just a quick fix. I had horrible car surging issues. It was bad spark plugs. I kicked my own butt all day for not checking those first. Just check the easy things and dont start pulling the car apart or your hair out just yet.

Sucks dont it? I have not had a chance to get the car out because it has been raining since the day i posted this. I hope it clears up by saturday. Anyways i did start it in the garage and didnt hear the fans come on at 192* or 196*. I hope for this to be my problem but i will find out soon enough. Is there anyway it could be a connection that is going bad therefore they only run at certian times?

I had pretty much the same problem with my car and it ended up being a bad thermostat.
Check the hose connected to the thermostat when the car is warmed up to make sure it is warm and fluid is flowing through it. It is also possible that there is air in the lines which can cause overheating.
If all seems fine and its still running hot, take the thermostat out and heat it in a pot of boiling water to make sure it is opening properly. Mine was stuck closed. water boils at at 212 degrees, so if its not open by then, you need a new thermostat.

Well i think i got it figured out. Went out to the garage and let the coolant temp get up to 205* while i was under the hood with a light and guess what? Fans not coming on! Now my question is where is the connection so i can check that? THese are factory fans so maybe the warranty will cover that. I know i have the procharger but my tb was not resetting to 0 and they said that was covered. If it is not covered i am going to go with a dual fan setup and 160 t stat.
