Default removeable top question

Believe it or not I've never had the top off my LS3 Coupe. Can one person do it, and how much does it weigh?:o

Default Depends on you

Post your picture with your shirt off and make a muscle! We can then tell you.

For the most part is is easy for nearly anyone to remove and install the top by themselves. Being over 5'9" is a big plus.

Open the hatch and make sure you have a clear area.

Put the windows down

Undo the top latches (all 3)

Open the driver door and stand facing the car with your chest against the driver edge of the top

Place your left hand at the front midpoint of the top and pull the top forward and up an inch or so

Place your right hand at the rear center of the top

Then pic up the top with a slight forward and up motion, placing the driver side of the top on your chest and tilting the passenger side of the top up

Walk back to the driver side rear wheel and lower the top into position

Place the front edge down first into the two latches

Press down on the rear latch after you are sure you have the two front latches mated correctly.

Same process in reverse.

Default 1st time, have help

The top is easy to take off and handle for me, but I would have a helper for the first time. It can be a little tricky. The front pops up first, then the back.

Default How tall are you

Dave:

Should be OK if you are over 5'8" tall when you stand up straight. Might be an issue of hitting your chin unless you tilt your head back a bit from your normal posture.

The video was a nice refresher. I've had the top off once to detail the the rubber and the get rid of a rattle.

Default great video

The short video was a big help. When I removed the top I didn't know which end went first into the storage compartment.

I had it good for the past 3 years, I had the original polycarbonate top that weighs less than the SMC does now. I just did the TSB where they take the hardware off the original and put it on the new and improved top to help stop the delam issue. Its definitely heavier now..im guessing a couple of pounds at least

I just had my top adjusted for the umptheen time by dealers from coast to coast. This last time the tech told me after installing the roof, make sure to keep the window switch operational for about ten seconds after the windows reach the top. This resets the window height to the new top position.
