I lost the #1 FOB for my 2005 C6 and am using #2. The owner's manual implies a replacement can be programmed using the "plug in" in the glove box if you have a "working FOB". However, it also says the new FOB will be given a number of 2,3, or 4. Does that mean you must have the #1 to program a spare?
The repair guy at my dealership told me if you do not have the #1 FOB, he has to program the new unit using his computer - at a cost I am sure.
Before I buy a new FOB for $80, I want to know if I can program it myself. I do not care if it is a #1 or #3 or #4. Thanks
As long as you have a working key fob, you can use that fob to program additional key fobs.
You can program up to 4 key fobs. If the RCDLR has 2 key fobs programmed any new fobs added will be added a number 3 and 4.
There are 4 methods for programming key fobs

The "short method" is for adding extra fobs if you already have the #1 fob programmed. Since you do not have a #1 fob anymore, you will have to use the "long method" to erase the programming and redo it using a new/different fob as your #1 fob. Also, it makes no difference what number is inscribed on the fob itself, this number is just for the human aspect.
