Default Name that Spring

So I hop in the car tonight and there's a spring on the driver's side floor, right about where my left foot would be.

Anyone have any idea where this came from? That's a quarter for perspective. The picture's a little washed out due to the flash... the spring is black and was covered in some pretty thick grease.

I've never seen that spring. That said it's probably the clutch pedal spring. I've seen similar posts.

It is part of your broken clutch assist spring.

Thanks for the quick answer.

After a search, it looks like that's a fairly common issue and something that's easily replaced.

As mentioned, the clutch pedal return assist spring breaking is common and its an easy fix. I would, however, suggest you replace it with the proper replacement spring. Using no spring at all or replacing it with a C5 spring can potentially lead to premature clutch wear.

Replacing the spring only takes a minute but before you remove the remainder of the broken spring get down there are look carefully to see where it connects. Here's a couple threads that may help:

*this guy used a C5 spring but the replacement procedure is the same

As said, it is an easy fix. But, if you're a "bigger" guy, it can be challenging to fit both shoulders in the foot well and get in position to push down the clutch with one hand and replace the spring with the other. I'm 6'1", 195 lbs, and had to have my wife sit in the passenger seat and push the clutch pedal down with a broom stick so I could replace the spring with one hand.
