Default How is the manual shift **** held on?

I bought a C6 Z06 shifter from one guy and the ****/boot from another. Now I have these 3 parts sitting on my bed and I'm trying to figure out how the go together. It looks like there's a small bolt that holds the **** on the shifter on the left side? Is there anything else? Anyone know what size bolt it is?

This is going into a C5 so I don't have much reference

Depending on the year, all of them have a torx bolt holding them on facing the driver of the car. Early years the boot just pulls down, later years you have to twist the chrome trim ring to pull the boot down.

That is all that holds the **** to the stick.

I just removed mine for the first time on my 06Z. I was surprised to find out how tight it was to remove the torx screw. It turns out after almost stripping the screw head, the threads had loctite threadlocker on it. Just letting you know it might take a little extra boots to get the shift **** screw unfastened. Good luck!

Put a little heat from a heat gun on it, and that should help loosen the thread locker

I replaced my stock shift **** and noticed a blue colored thread locker on the bolt. It did take a little effort to break the lock but it released.

I believe it's a T25 bolt that hols the **** on, and you have to remove the console cover to remove the shifter boot

Bludog,
On my '08 I just lowered the boot by giving the chrome ring at the top a half twist and had access to the bolt. I've posted a photo to show the stock shifter and the chrome ring.

Maybe I misunderstood. I thought you wanted to replace the boot and shifter ****. Whats kinda strange is I don't have that chrome ring at the top of the boot on mine
