Default Drive train noises

We are still getting use to our new addition to the Corvette fleet in the household...the C6 convertible, 6-speed in Velocity Yellow. Although the car drives great, I'm a little concerned about what seems to be some "slop" in the drive train. When starting off and engaging the clutch, the drive train seems a little loose, and you hear a faint "clunk" from the rear end. Also when disengaging the clutch, you hear the same sound. The car has 38,000 miles on it. This is my first Corvette with a transsexual, so wasn't sure this is a normal sound, or if there may be be problems somewhere.

Default Loose Nuts

It's the main axle nuts working themselves loose. The TSB includes putting a little Loctite on the threads and torquing them up with about 100 ft-lbs. There are other threads with more accurate torque info. You need a large 34mm (?) socket. I'm not sure why, but I ended up having the dealer do it rather than buying that size socket. It made a big difference even on an automatic.

I disagree. The only sound that tightening axle nuts will (temporarily) prevent is a click during torque reversals.

What the OP is describing sounds like the standard driveline rattle that occurs when you disengage the clutch under slight load at idle (for example when rolling around a parking garage at 5mph).

Torquetube,

You are right about that sound I hear. I researched a lot of threads on Axle nuts, and none of the symptoms sounded like what I have been hearing. Just seems like there is a lot of back and forth slop in the drive train. If this is normal thing, then I won't worry about it. The car is still covered by the GM power train warranty, so I would like to find any problems before that runs out.
