If you want 470rwhp it can be had with cheapo LS3 heads and a 224/228 cam. A 230/234 114 LSa will get you low 480's. Why would anyone run a 238/ 242, Lift .595/ .595 112LSa cam at 14 degrees overlap and its associated garbage driveability? What you save over the Trick Flow 225's you will shell out in tuning this big cam to deal with the 1600rpm driveability issues.
Stay with a proven package. I have no idea what the goals are here. If you think its going to be better than the proven H/C packages, it wont. If youre trying to save money, a Ls3 head/230 cam package still costs less with 10 degrees less overlap.
The LS1 package includes the 215cc heads and the LS2 package includes the 225cc heads....and yes, they are the fully CNC ported versions.
The heads are the same as you would get buying the parts individually and as such you need to price in the required rocker arms since the trick flows need them for valve reliability. The aftermarket rockers should be used with any high lift cam but its exaggerated due to the 13.5 degree valve angle.
The gaskets in the kit arent optimum either as you should exhaust using thinner gaskets before you mill heads since lower quench distances help with detonation and milling hurts flow.
a 14 degree overlap cam is the deal sinker for me.
Spin knows his stuff. I can agree with the problems with driveability on a 14 degree overlap cam. I had problems with much less than that. He has countless results on packages with zero to 4 degrees of overlap making as much power as cams with way more overlap and better driveability. So you would have to ask yourself what the benefit would be of going with a cam that nobody has used and isnt proven to save a couple of bucks is worth. Listen to the spinmonster go with his cam and the LS3 or TF heads and you will be happy like countless others.

EVEN so the package would be a great deal if it includes the 225's, Push rods, Head & header Gaskets & roller Rockers, irrespective of the Cam
perhaps Trick Flow would reduce the price to say $2.900 W/O the CAM that would be a deal. I have $ 3,060.00 spent without the Push rods and Gaskets. That would be about $200.00 more so i will be at $3,260 for my
package and I already have a CAM. It is a deal unless the Heads are the 220's Cast and they are not the 225's. Just some thoughts.
I'm interested in how these perform compared to ported ls3 heads, particularly in the low to mid rpm range.
The TFS are the cathedral leader. Your going to get multiple answer going both ways here. I will dig up the most recent Dyno that shows what the TFS220 will do with a baby cam.
Low to mid the TFS out performs. The only way I would consider LS3 heads on a 4" bore would be if considering a ported 243. Dollar for dollar the big valve head wins.
