Is the "A4" found in 2005 C6's and all C5 automatics, the "infamous" 700R4 transmission?
Also, what is the "A6", is it the 4L60E transmission?
The 2005 C6 A4 is basically the 700R4. The 700R4 was renamed the 4L60 when GM went to an alpha-numeric designation for all transmissions. The "4" refers to the number of forward gears, the "L" refers to longitudinal orientation ("T" refers to transverse orientation), the "60" is a relative strength indicator, and the "E" means its electronically controlled. The A4 in the C6 is called a 4L65E which means its beefed up over the 4L60E to handle the higher torque of the LS2. The 4L60E is rated at 360 lb-ft and the 4L65E is rated at 400 lb-ft, so its not exactly the "infamous" 700R4.
The A6 is called the 6L80E. As a reference point, the Turbo 400 was renamed the 3L80 which puts it on par with the strength of a Turbo 400.

THANKS for the info! My C5 had the 4L60E and it grenaded after only 10k miles. I always knew and heard that the 700R4/4L60E were not that great when it came to handling power/torque.
I'm glad GM finally came out with a stronger auto. Man, the Turbo 400 was a beast, that thing handled almost anything you can throw at it. A buddy of mine has a muscle car that makes around 550HP/600LBS Torque and it has a stock Turbo 400 and even after hundreds of hard 1/4 mile runs and tens of thousands of miles, it hasn't skipped a beat.
