Default LS3 Questions

What is the bore size on the 700 longblock and why the use of cathedral heads on a built LS3? I want a forged LS3, but these questions beg to be asked. TIA for your input.

Whats the advantages, if any, of doing an LS3 427 vs a stock LS7 427?

This question is more around the block itself vs the forged internals.

Sounds like an amazing deal.

The 4.125" Crankshaft will work great for low boost applications. For high boost applications, we recommend the 4.000" Crankshaft.

4.065". We choose the Trickflow 235's because they make big power. We can build the Longblock to any configuration requested.

The LS3 Block is $1,142 cheaper than the LS7 Block. The longer stroke makes more torque. The forged internals will handle a higher power capacity.

Thanks

I have seen the LS3 418s and the cyl bores have space between them like your pictures have for the 427. How do you make the LS3427 not have siamese cyls? is it the stroke distance is longer than the stock LS7?
Thanks

This is the stock bore 4.065". The crankshaft is 4.125", creating 427 cubic inches.

Great Deal!!! Wish you had this offer last March.

I have an LS3 418 built by another engine builder and love the power and torque the stroker puts out! With factory intake and heads, Z51 rear end and an A6 trans with a 3600 stall converter on DRs, my best time has been 10.903 @ 126.83mph. If you want to get some serious power going, Stroke It!!

Good luck with the sale!!

Well, mine is paid for...but due to the loss of my parents. There were 63 and 62...way too young. If you get a chance....do whatever work on your Vette as you can now...you only live once!

Seth
I would think this configuration (4.065"x4.125") would be yeilding about 440 CI. The stock 427 (LS7 or BBC) config. is 4.125" bore by 4.00" stroke. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with extra inches, just don't understand why reversing bore and stroke changes the CI total.

Nope..

4.065 / 2 = 2.0325 2.0325 squared = 4.131056
4.131056 X 3.1415926 = 53.53464

53.53464 X 8 = 428.27

So if anything, they could call it a 428

The displacement formula for a V8 is CID=(bore)²*stroke*pi*2
For a 4.065" bore/4.125" stroke, that yields 428.28 in³ which rounds to 428 in³.
For the LS7 4.125" bore/4" stroke, that yields 427.65 in³ which also rounds to 428 in³.
As you can see, neither one is "technically" 427 in³ but they are both the same size. The bottom line is the company making the engine can call it whatever they want as long as they deliver more than advertised.

An interesting thing about the displacement formula for piston bores close to 4" is whatever you change the piston bore by requires twice that amount of change on the stroke in the opposite direction to maintain equal displacement. As you can see above, a reduction of .060" on the bore was offset by an increase of .125" on the stroke and displacement was within .63 in³ of each other. If the bore had been reduced .0625" (half of .125"), the displacements would have been within .1 in³ of each other.
