Electrical/Stereo Issue??
Stock 2005 with Auto trans and about 53K miles
Stock Bose stereo with NAV package
Appears to be the original Delco battery
No previous weakness when starting the engine
About two weeks ago I noticed that there was a faint "whirring" noise coming from the center console when I shut the engine down. The noise cannot be heard from outside the car. The noise can be heard best when you put you ear right in front of the NAV display. Sounds like it could be a small electrical cooling fan within the stereo unit or possibly the CD or DVD drive spinning. The noise is very faint. I had not noticed the noise before and assumed it would stop after the car had been parked for a few minutes. This is my first Vette and I have only had it a few months.
I did not start the car for the next 2 weeks.
When I tried to get in the car a couple of days ago, I found it was completely dead. I replaced the battery with a Sears Platinum and noticed that the whirring sound described above was still there. The car started and ran fine. I sat in the car for a few minutes after shutting down the engine and found that the noise was still present. It doesn't seem to matter whether the ignition is in the ACC position.
Rather than drain the new battery, I disconnected the battery cables since I will be out of town for most of the next two weeks.
My initial thought is that there is something wrong with the factory stereo/NAV unit. Or, it could be something behind the stereo that I am hearing.
I have tried several ways of searching previous posts and have not found anything similar.
My question is whether anyone else has experienced this same type of problem? If so, what was the cause? I hate to replace the stereo and find that was not the problem.
Thanks for any possible help on this! Absent some advice from you folks, I will take it to the dealership to be diagnosed.
Andy
