Default Traction Control vs Launch Control

For pre 2010 Trac Control, from the manual: "works the rear brakes and reduces engine power (by closing the throttle and managing engine spark) to limit wheel spin."

The 2010 Launch Control limits wheelspin, and I assume it's a whole lot better, but why/how exactly?
*I know it allows the predefined rev prior to clutch dump
*I assume it does not use the rear brakes like TC
*I assume it is somehow much more efficient in how it modulates engine power during wheel spin? Maybe it does not completely close the throttle, but more precisely modulates the power at a level to maintain the wheel spinning slightly faster than the car??

I watched the video from the 2010 rollout where Tadge Juechter explains LC, but he did not go into great tech detail.
Thanks

I can not tell you exactly how GM's version does it...but....

1. GM does use a pre-set RPM to launch the car, much like a two step

Most 'race' units that have this feature will do one or a combination of the two of retarding the spark and/or dropping cylinders. As it sees wheel speed increase in relation to the front it will generally start pulling timing to reduce the amount of power the car has, or start killing cylinders to slow the ramp up of wheel speed.

Of course GM's system does not allow you to change any of this but in most race car application you can tell it how much variance you want in speed between the front and rear wheel speed sensors as to how much spin you will get as a dead hook would bog the car down way to much. I would assume they are looking for a 10-12% increase in rear wheel speed over front speed.

From the sounds of the cars, they are changing the timing table and dropping spark to do this.

So is there any way to program that into a pre 2010?

Default Launch control

Lingenfelter makes a LNC-002 Launch Control for the C6 which is plug & play for $274.95 (Part number #L460095297). It is NOT to be used with Cats, however.

I won't swear to it, but I think that is just a two step.
