Default **Rear Diffuser removal DIY**

What's up Guys here's a little DIY with some pics on how to remove the rear valance/diffuser.

I only have pics of the removal. Going to finish installing it by this Friday morning, I will post pics of the install stay tuned.....

Jack up the rear and remove the wheels

Remove rear wheel liner with 7mm nut driver

remove (8) 7mm screws underneath the diffusser and (2) 10mm bolts that are on top of the exhaust tips.

Unplug Back up lights

Remove (6) 7mm screws from the inside of the diffuser (3) screws on each side. You will notice that the diffuser is ready to be pulled out, there are (6) tabs that need to be pressed in so it can be removed from the bumper. I could not take pics of this procedure, but you will see what i'm talking about.Gently tug the diffuser out of the way. Make sure you use painters tape to prevent any scratches on your car

Sorry guys for the late Update, here are a few pics of my attempt to fit the diffuser

I had my buddy line up 1 side

As you can see in this pic it stuck out to far

Thanks for the write up! I did not realize that you had to take the wheel liner out.

Thanks for the write-up!

I am on the list for the same diffuser now. Based on the OEM pics, you removed;

(8) 7mm screws underneath the diffusser and (2) 10mm bolts that are on top of the exhaust tips.

However, on the pics of the CF diffuser you posted on the group buy thread, it did not look like it had any holes or those two brackets that bolt to the top of the exhaust?

I just got mine today, and have just noticed the same thing...no holes, and none of those tabs along the top edge either.

How on earth do you line it up to drill the holes in the correct locations? Are the tabs not needed to hold the new one on?

I believe part two of the DIY will determine whether I go through with this or not.

Thanks to cencalc6 for the DIY posts though.

i guess u can use the old diffuser as a template to drill new holes. I I hope that the reverse lights will fit without any snags. As far as those clips...no idea...gonna hav to be creative.

mines on its way...delivery expected this week

Sorry guys but I have Bad News, the New Diffuser will not fit, it's 2 inches too wide.Later today I will have plenty of pics of my attempt on installing it Don't want to jump into conclusions but I might of received a Bad diffuser. My pics will have exact measurements of both OEM Diffuser and the New Carbon Diffuser. As soon as I get off work I will post up pics. Hopefully this helps everybody that purchased the new Diffuser, make some measurements and see if they also got a Bad batch of diffusers.Quik Z06 is not the manufacture only the distributor he has been very helpful and keeping me posted.

I also spoke to Quik Z and I concur he is trying to fix/resolve this issue with a sense of urgency. He did confirm that these are not right.

The diffuser will need to have the tabs on the edge and at least the brackets that bolt to the exhaust area or the diffuser will sag on the exhaust tips (Not good). It should also be pre-drilled to line up with the 8 holes in the rear for proper attachment. Tape will not do the job, IMO.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought those sorts of things were needed. I know I'm a newbie at this stuff...this is...err...was...going to be my first attempt at a mod like this. To say I was confused, when I opened the package and compared the new part to cencal's pics of the oem part, would be an understatement.

I am starting to wonder if these were designed as an overlay. Does the stock piece fit snug inside this one? After reading the other post where there are no tabs or holes, that would seem to be a possibility. Sorry to hear about the problem considering all the work you went through.

You guys should also look closely at the inside of the reverse light holes on the CF version. On the OEM version there are clips as you see on cencals pics where the lights are held on to the diffuser.

What does the back of the CF diffuser look like? Are there clips around the light holes or is it smooth??

Also as 30YR stated, I also have a funny feeling this may be an overlay, not a replacement piece. I think the others available from LG and WCC are also overlays?? BTW, nothing wrong with that, we just need to figure out the deal here..If is an overlay, this price is still much better than others I've seen.

hey cencal, see if the CF unit will fit over your oem diffuser since you have it off the car now??

Nope...no clips on mine either. Here's a couple shots of the unfinished side:

actually from DWS' pics there is a little flap/fold at the top of the CF diffuser so it cant b an overlay cuz

1. it wouldnt just stick over it
2. that flap wouldnt loop over the existing diffuser cuz that's where it clips to the body...

The more I look at this, I am not so sure this is not a trim to fit piece as well, if the factory piece fits inside, then it would be the template to mark all the mounting holes. This install may require trimming the CF top flap around the existing top to ensure a flush fit to the body. Everywhere else there are holes in the original for mounting bolts or push pins, and possible those locations are used to bolt through the CF piece to the body. There is a ridge on the top of the factory piece that is not visable in the photo and that may be the reason for the extra length on the top edge. Keep in mind there is an indentation where the factory piece rolls in under the rear body piece and there may be room for the CF piece to still fit flush to the body. I don't have one of these to play with so I have no way to verify. I am sure someone will figure this out.
