Default Broken differential ???

About 300 miles after I swapped converters, my differential started leaking out the axle seals. I had previously heard an occasional grinding sound upon heavy and WOT, but since it also sounded like a vibration, I thought I might be bumping the snubbers.

I pulled the axles a few minutes ago to replace the seals that I thought I'd damaged when doing the converter and discovered this:

The seals appear to be intact and without damage, but the output shafts are not centered in the housing. The camera angle makes it appear as if the axle shifted to the lower left, when it really has just dropped straight down. I assume that's not the way they're supposed to look.

Does this mean something internal is cracked/broken??

I'm thinking of putting it back together without changing the seals and taking it to a dealer to check.

Opinions anyone.

Doesn't pass the gut check visual test. Consider replacing the seals to see more inside and see if that clears it up? However, something does seem amiss.
