hello im having a problem with my 05 base c6 vette. I just bought the car a couple weeks ago. I took the car back to the dealership because I heard a noise that I believe is gear whine. Only happens under acceleration and most noticable in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear. Whine gets louder as rpms increase but go away once clutch is pushed in.
anyways, they believed it was the transmission and replaced with a new one. (They used the old housing)
I got the car back and when I took off from the dealer, The problem was still exactly the same. But now there are more problems now. 7 out of ten times, when I try and put it into reverse, there is a very loud grind and the car jerks forward. That is with the clutch all the way to the floor. And the second problem is now Ive noticed that the card wanted to reject a 2nd to 3rd gear shift a couple of times.
They said they, replaced with new transmission, inspected clutch and inspected differential.
So monday the dealership will be looking at the car again. I need some help trying to figure out what can be causing these problems
I think its going to be difficult for someone to give you advice on this problem without hearing the car themselves. I'd be concerned with how well the dealership you have working on your car knows Corvettes. With the new problems you have, I'd be worried that they know what they're doing. I wish you all the best with getting this straightened out.
I agree^. I would be pizzed if a stealership put a new tranny in my C6 and the problem was not fixed...and apparently worse than before. I'm not an expert, but I have a subtle gear whine from my 4.10 differential, and it is more noticeable upon acceleration than deceleration.
thanks, Im taking the car into the dealership in the morning. I will give you an update on what they find.
and wass, you said you have a gear whine with your 4.10 setup. Is whine ok? or does it indicate that its not setup properly and there may be problems in the future due to that?
I've had the whine for almost two years after a ring & pinion installation. It's subtle but noticeable. I don't consider it to be a problem. However, these gears replaced a prior 4.10 ring & pinion with a severe whine that I couldn't live with. They were defective.
Bottom line...there shouldn't be a gear whine. Hey, I could be rapper with that kinda rhyme!
