I've heard that before about Simple Green. Some have used it on wheels with funny results, too. Funny as in bad. Not funny, I guess, if you own them.

It's fiberglass.

Simple Green is a No No!!
It's highly corrosive, I had a friend use it to clean belly on his Airplane and it started to peel the paint around the edges, and turned to a white powder and discoloration followed along with pitting.

The white specks on your alternator are aluminum oxide corrosion. Just spray it with WD40 and wipe it with a shop cloth and it will look fine.

It is also a good idea to spray all your aluminum (and for Z06's magnesium) under carriage parts with a good corrosion protectant. I used WD40 only because I had it available while the car was on a lift, but there are some much better products available.

Simple Green is a good cleaner for greasy aluminum parts if:
Cut it at least 50-50.
Rinse the part first with warm water.
Spray with Simple Green/water mix.
Brush in if very dirty.
Rinse thoroughly within 10 min. Do not leave it on for long periods!
After drying, spray with WD40 or other protectant.
This will also work on anodized aluminum parts.

Do not use the Castrol Super clean (purple stuff) on any polished or anodized aluminum as it will etch the surface and dull it.

some guys have talked about this type of problem in the past. one of the BIG 's is to keep pool chlorine in a closed area (aka garage). this will cause the same issue. FWIW.

If you don't drive the car much so the metal does not get heated to drive off moisture, it can also cause accelerated corrosion.

A light coating of WD 40 should fix this issue from getting worse. WD 40 was originally a rust-prevention solvent and degreaser developed for the aerospace industry. As we all know, it won't harm an alternator. I recommend you wipe off excess as the thinest of coats will do the trick.

If you send them to me I can refinish them. I did the tissue paper in the openings of the alternator thing and painted it with epoxy paint 2 years ago. I can also powder coat your bracket all in a one day turn around. Its about 30 bucks for all the parts. Labor is free.

I have a bunch of colors but can get others.

Check the eastwood site for powder colors.

Spin,

A very generous offer...thanks. I still haven't gotten the car to the dealership for their opinion as to whether there will be any warranty consideration or not. Once I get the dealership's read I'll figure out the plan ahead. I'll keep this option on the top! Thanks again.
