Default C6 steering column lock question

Hello,

Looking into getting a C6 and was wondering if they have a steering lock system and if so do they have the lock issues like the C5.

Only C6s from the 2005 model year with manual transmissions have column locks, and yes.

I checked out this 2008 6 speed manual and the column lock did not seem to work.
I dont know that much about the c6 lock system but shouldn't the column lock when the car is switched off. If not how is it activated ???

It doesn't exist on the 2006+ models. The electronic key fob system replaced it.

The '05 manuals have electronic key fobs and column locks.

Like I said, no C6 automatic and no C6 manual produced after '05 has a column lock. At all. Meaning you can reach in the open window of a shut-down car and turn the steering wheel through its full range of motion.

This is a good thing. Column locks should go away on all cars.

Yes, but GM got the government to allow the fob system to eliminate the lock on models after 2005.

Any one know where i can find any of the government legislation on this or any GM bullitain explaining how and when this was achieved by GM. I need this for evidence to try and get a manual trans vehicle passed in Australia without a column lock.

Export vehicles still have the Steering Column Lock Module installed. You will not be able to circumvent the installation of this component on a manual vette in Australia based on the input I have.

On an auto you're ok though.

I understand that this may not be possible to get installed, however i going to try and get the car passed based on evidence from the US FMVSS that the column lock was removed and passed in the us from 2006 onwards.

So what i am asking for is if anyone knows where i can find the information or official paperwork, GM bullitains or anouncements regarding the C6 from 2006 being released to the US and Canadian markets without a column lock that would be very helpful.
