Transmission Swap
Hey everyone,
My first gear synchro on my 06 z51 is going and the estimate I got to fix it is around 2k+ mainly because of the work involved and not the parts. This got me thinking, I know the 08+ transmissions are much smoother and better and it would only cost me about 1000 more to buy it and have that installed(im assuming work would be same and if tranny costs me 2k so minus about 1k in parts for synchro job). Can this transmission be installed directly in place of mine? It seems like the best choice considering its only a little more to have a smoother and more solid transmission..
Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated

what?! Is this if I just give them my transmission?? I would need it removed and put back as well. If what your saying is true, then I would be taking a Las Vegas trip in the very near future!

Me too but it wasnt a 2008+, if im getting same year then i'll just get synchros replaced and thats it.
As for the two being the same but different casings, does it make that much of a difference then?! Im pretty sure the 08+ ones are much better, atleast from what I read!

2005-2007 Vettes have the T56
2008+ Vettes have the TR6060
The transmissions are very similar, the 6060 weighs about 40lbs more and has triple syncro gears. Its definately an upgrade, but not huge. The T56 is a stout and proven transmission.

Yea, thats what I was looking for. So any more info on wether its a direct bolt on swapping those trannsmisions and more info on the guy that said it would be 400 dollars.

Might just be taking it to the dealership, they keep telling me theres a good chance GM will cover a part of it. They want 700 to open it up to diagnose it first though :/
