I am curious? what would it take to get 8K rpms from my LS3. Also why doesn't the LS3 rev that high. Ferrari,Porsche even ricers run at a higher RPM. sorry if this seems like a dumb question.

The have ping pong ball sized pistons, less rotating mass. I would take the LS3 over any of the "competitions" 400 hp motors. Rev to 8k and make usable horsepower between 6500 and 8000...

Why would you want to go to 8K rpms? The cars that do that have no torque so they need to rev that high to produce the same power. Someone else can probably explain it better than I.

End result: LS3 gets lots of low end grunt and does not need to rev that high. Saves money also, and gas.

Cars that rev up in th 8k rpm usually have twin overhead cams to reduce recipical mass and have a smaller displacement. However, moving the power range up can reduce low end torque. With the addition of variable ratio cam timing, some of the low end torque will be retained.
I had an E46 M3 that redlined at 8k. The M3 had a 3.2 litre 333 hp/ 262ft.lbs of torque vs the corvettes 6.2 LS3 436 hp and 428 ft.lbs of torque.
The M3's engine was almost half the size of the LS3 and had 166 ft.lbs. of less torque, but it loved to rev to 8k!

Why doesn't the LS3 rev to 8k?

Expense - the materials costs would drive up the price of a base vette.
Reliability - increase stress on materials can reduce engine life.
Marketing - GM has the LS7 which redlines at 7k., the expense of an
8k reving LS3 would be closing the gap on the Z06 pricing.

I hope this helps

All things considered, the LS3 (and LS2) actually does rev pretty damn high for a simple hydraulic roller cam/lifter motor of it's size.
An simple valve spring change and some tuning might even allow it to rev to 7000 rpm quite easily too I'd bet though I don't know if there would be any power gains attained by doing that on the stock cam.
