Default Wide body info

Hey guys -

Need info from Wide Body C6 owners.

I see that a rear conversion kit is about $1,200, how much is the labor to get it installed and painted?

Has anyone done the rear without touching the front? How did that turn out, look ok, handling ect?

Thanks,

Mike

I did my rear myself. It took me about an hour to pull off the stock quarters, and about three to intall the oem z06 panels. I had a shop paint them before I put them on. This was a pretty easy swap. There is a step by step write up on how to do it with pictures you just have to find it.

I have rear widebody only and it looks great. Your typical shop should charge about $1000 for paint and install. You will just need to also consider wheels as well because it will look funky with stock C6 wheels set in about 2in trust me. lol I just bought some wheel spacer/adapters to push my stock wheels out 1.5" till I could get the wheels I want.

2. Paint/Blend $1200
3. Aftermarket Wheels $1000-$$$
4. (4) Tires - slightly used Z06 $1000.00

That's a really good estimate of the costs involved. Depending on the color of your C6, paint blending is a must.

Thanks for all the info - Mine is Machine Silver, not sure how easy that is to match.

I also figured about 900-1000 for Z06 Knock offs and another 1k for tires.

All in all this is close to what I expected to pay.

I have z51 brakes, is the Big break kit really a must. I plan on doing it down the line, but how off will the set-up look without the big brake kit?

I did the same and saved a whole lot of cash. I just bought a set of spyders for my car and will be selling the set in the pics soon. Good luck

Here is the install guide that I used.http://www.myvettesite.com/files/widebodyguide.pdf

I have Machine Silver too. Body shop did the rear wide body install and a great job on the paint match.

I sold my stock wheels and Z51 brakes in the C6 For Sale forum.

New rear Z06 brakes are not required but the rear z51 brakes are small and look out of proportion to me.

I can send you some pics if you like.

Silver will have to be blended, it is a hard color to match.

Does it brake OK at high speed? I'd be worried about throwing the front to rear braking proportion out of balance with those calipers and pads.

I don't track the car but I am guilty of "spirited driving". I haven't noticed any braking bias or felt anything unusual since the change.

I have seen Joe's car and it looks great, fast too. I'm sure it won't be long until I need one.

Mike,

I was one of the first 3 years ago to do the rear conversion only. Its totally worth it so go for it. $1220 for the kit, $400 to paint, install yourself it's easy and you get to learn about your car, $800 for some reproduction wheels with stock C6 offsets in front and Z06 sizes in back, keep your stock front tire sell the rears on the forum, 2 new 325 supercars figure about $500 and you are in business. You don't need to do anything with the rear brakes as that is purely cosmetic the Z51/stock brakes work fine. If anything powedercoat them or paint them yourself and they will look good enough.

Totally agree, I did not do the quarters myself because there were other problems with them but if you were to buy GM quaters, I second his advice.

If I were doing it again, I'd go with the 345 rear tires over the stock 325s. It fills the quarters out better. Oh well, I guess I'll wait until I burn these up
