Anybody know why the salvage value has dropped so much since the summer of '08? I got $130 Each for the cats from my '05 C6 18 months ago, called the same place the other day and the same cats (GM small) are now only worth $51 Each.
I thought the value of the cats was for the Platinum content of the cat but Platinum is up a couple of hundred dollars an ounce since 7-08.

I get about $55-$60 per cat or $80 for a Y-pipe with cats lately.
because the economy is down and there is no car MFG going on like there used to be ANY where in the world, I think economics should be required in U.S. high schools, simple economics! the law of supply and demand. and yes the salvage co's that have the $ to wait it out are buying low and yes! there going to hold it till they can sell HIGH!
Rhodium prices (a component in cats w Platinum and Palladium) peaked in June 08 at near $10,000 an ounce. The price has fallen to $1K to $2K since. This was attributed to some games being played by the Russians (the #2 producer next to So. Africa). Prices could go up in the future if you want to horde them where they won't get stolen.
