Switching to Z06 mufflers on non Z06?
Is the Zo6 stock muffler different from the Non-Z06 stock muffler? If so, will installing a used set of Z06's on my base C6 be louder or deeper?

First, yes they are different mufflers.
2nd, keep searching, lots of data available to include comparisons between Z06, NPP and BB Fusions. I put the Z06 mufflers on my 2006 C6 coupe for a little extra noise and love it. I really like the burble the best. Wife likes it closed which is same as stock. I also put the switch on the dead pedal to activate the M2W for opening the valves.

I just installed the full Zo6 exhaust on my 08. No dyno results yet but they will be coming shortly. It was a PITA to get the stock zo6 mufflers in. There was def a few curse words involved but I did finally get them in there. I am not running any sort of vacume lines so the valves stay open all the time for right now. It is def louder and deeper than before no question. But you can easily live with it. I will probably be taking them back out to do the muffler mod for a bit more volume when the valves are open

I have them on an LS2, along with the Z06 Manifolds and Cats, I also did not run vacuum to them so they are open all the time. They are a little louder and deeper, but no burble and lots of Drone up to 1800RPM. I had a Flowmaster American Thunder cat back with the stock Manifolds and cats and it sounded much better, had less drone, and the drone also was only at lower RPMs.
I'm considering the muffler mod too since I don't think it sounds that great, its still a little too much on the quiet side. I also head the muffler mod will reduce the drone.
I would not recommend these mufflers for an automatic.

I have them on my 2006 LS2 with the NPP in a box controls via a push button. Its a cool setup. I got mine in with out removing the sway bar and I think the drivers side hung up a little on the way in but it wasn't anything a 2x4 and a mallet wouldn't fix. I did do mine on my 4 post lift so that helped...

I installed Z06 mufflers on my 08 after header install caused the B&B RT66 to drone enough I could not stand it. The big issue is the over axle pipe on the Z06 mufflers is 3" and stock muffler is 2.5". My muffler shop cut my stock over axle pipes off, cut the 3" pipes off, and welded the 2.5" pipes to the Z06 mufflers. The Z06 mufflers neck down to 2.5" at the muffler anyway. Bolted right up, 2hr labor. You can by pass this route by using NPP mufflers off an 08 car. They are around $1200 new, and $800 used, if you can find a set..NPP will bolt right up to your 06 BTW, my Z06 mufflers cost $225 with shipping.. Side note, Automatic cars are a bit more difficult than manual cars simply because there is less room for the over axle pipes to snake through.
Regardless of which one you go, (Z06 or NPP) you may elect to have a way to control the valves. I have headers, so there was significant drone from 1400-1800 with the flaps open, that is why I chose a valve controller. There is Sunset Orange Controllers and NPP in a box. Both use engine manifold vacuum to supply vacuum to the valves so they close, and a remote controller to open when you push the remote button. Sunset Orange also offers an RPM controlled function so the flaps open on a preset RPM (you select from 1800-8000), and also by pushing the DIC reset button.
I have heard that NPP muffler are slightly louder than Z06 mufflers. The Z06 muffles can be modded before install to make them louder. Headers make a difference in sound volume. Z06 mufflers with headers is louder than NPP with stock exhaust manifolds..Hope this helps..
