Default Batter and TPMS issues - please help

With the snow in Charlotte i have not started my 2006 Z06 in about 3 weeks. Wen to use it today and it was dead. Jumped it with my S500 benz and while it brought the voltage up from 11.4 to 12.9 it still would not start

Went down to autozone and it said i needed a 90 series battey with 590 CCA. They did not stock those but did stock the 86 series with the same CCA. They tested my existing batter which was a NAPA from 2006 with a 525 CCA rating.

My car has had from the previous owner a Kenwood Video NAV / DVD / Bluetooth system and an Alpine Amplifier and a exhaust butterfly valve control. So obivously I ocul have a drain coming from somewhere with all of this work done but I would not even know where to look. I have had the car for two month and it has sat for over a week before with no issues. When they hooked it up to their test it tested good / low charge. Knowing the batter is going on 4 years old and it was underrated in the first place for a stock car let alone one with an Amp etc I though it was best to install a new Duralast so i bought the 86 series 590 CCA battery.

Installed it, got a perfect fit and it started right up and when driving reads 14.0 volts. So i think that issue is solved short term although I am going to get a battery tender and have it on the car when i know it will sit for a while

However now my right rear is reading 0 psi. I get no warning buzzer or anyting and it worked fine (Read 31 PSI last time i drove it) before the issue today. I checked the air pressure with a gauge and all tires are properly inflated.

Any insight into what caused this and there is a way to reset it etc?? Any help is appreciated

Thanks,
Robert

Hi Robert

Each sensor has an internal battery. The sensors have a "design life" of 10 years, so your sensor batteries should have plenty of life remaining, but.....the RR could be getting weak.

There is no warning buzzer or CEL to tell you about your tires. Indications about them come via messages in the DIC and the tire tread light in the instrument cluster.

When you lose pressure in a tire you'll get alerts in the DIC about low pressure, or when pressure is real low that a tire is flat. You may also get a message "Limit Speed to 55".

That "0 psi" thing may be a one-time thing. If you continue to get it when you drive the car regularly, it may be helped by reprogramming all the sensors, but if the sensor's internal battery is getting weak it will require the sensor to be replaced.

Unfortunately, in a 2005-2009 Vette, to reprogram the sensors you need a TPMS tool that transmits a radio frequency that will trigger the sensors to send their data to the TPMS computer in the car.

I recommend checking your tire pressures regularly with a gauge and see if the RR sensor starts acting normal with more regular driving of the car.

Your local Discount Tire may be able to reprogram the sensors for you, but if the RR battery is weak they'll have a problem triggering that sensor. Their tool may be able to do some diagnostics on the sensor to see how it's signal/battery strength is.

If the RR pressure continues to read "0", and if it can't be reprogrammed, the battery may be weak and you'll need a new sensor.

Thanks that all makes sense

The only odd thing is i have no DIC message or idiot light or anything

I only drove it around the block in the neighborhood after replacing the battery. Perhaps when i drive it more tomorrow to work it iwll right itself??

I am have new rear tires installed tomorrow night, i will se if they can take care of any potential issue then I suppose

You mention you have a Mild2Wild controller installed on the car. There are two ways to install that controller. If the controller is installed the way most people do it you have to remember to switch the controller to the OFF position when you park the car or it will discharge the battery. The more difficult installation prevents that from happening. If you do not have the installation instructions you can find them on Top Flight ReProductions web site.

http://www.topflightrepro.com/mild2wild-exhaust.pdf

Look up the Zero Drain Install and then check to see how your switch is installed. Maybe you will find an easy solution to your battery drain issue.
