Default Help- Installing Autometer Shift Light

Installing a Pro Shift Lite. Tech support at Autometer told me I need to connect to the white wire, pin #48, blue terminal strip on the PCU. Is the PCU under the passanger side floor mat. Where do you think I would find this blue connector terminal strip, and how would you identify pin #48? Thanks for the help,

If you're talking about the ECM (or PCM), it's in the right front wheel well.

When I installed a shift light in my Z06, I didn't want to have to run a wire through the firewall, so I tried to find a tach signal in the cockpit.

If you do a search you'll find several threads where owners found the correct white wire with the tach signal either in the passenger footwell, or under the driver's side kick panel.

I tried to locate the white wire in both those places. On the passenger side I found numerous white wires, but couldn't figure out which one I wanted. I couldn't find one down low on the driver's side.

So.....I removed the instrument cluster and spliced into the white wire that goes directly to the tachometer. I used that signal for both my shift light and an input into my Traqmate data-logger. Here's a link to a thread about the installation of my Shift-I progressive shift light:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-t...ift-light.html

If you scroll down to about the 5th picture, you can see that the the wire harness splits into 2 bundles behind the instrument cluster - one to the speedometer, and one to the tachometer. In the picture, the tacometer bundle is on the left and the white wire I spliced into is in that wire bundle that plugs into the tach.

Hope that helps!

i went thru the same thing when installing my shift light. i tried to find the wire inside the car and followed numerous threads on the subject. i must have tried three different locations trying to avoid having to go into the passenger side wheel well. however none of the locations that were outlined on this site (in other members posts) worked for me. i think maybe the wiring is different on different years or models because i fillowed their instructions perfectly but it was never the correct wire.

when it was all said and done i went into the passenger side wheel well and found the wire i needed and ran the wire thru the firewall and was done with it. the pcm/ecm has the first pin and last pin numbered so you can count the pin locations to figure out which one is no. 48. it is not real clear but if you take your time you can figure it out.

it may be easier to go to the back of the tach as suggested here but i just have a thing about taking the dash apart. i am sure it is ok but i just do not like to do it.

by the way, you can get to the module without taking off the wheel. you just have to turn the wheel all the way to make room.

good luck,...
