Recently drove the Dragons Tail in N.Carolina in relatively new 2008 c6 [4000 mi.] . Decided to go with paddle shifting so I could down shift going down hill into some of the hair pin turns. When I shifted from 3 to 2 it started to coast and pick up speed before the tranny made the shift and gave me control of the car again. Very scary stuff when you are free wheeling going into a hard corner. Any one else had this experience or is my tranny a wack job? Do I need to see the dealer or what?
I have an 06 a6 and have not noticed anything like that. How long was the delay? On a track, at speed, downhill any delay would seem too long. We all know the paddles are slow upshifting. I would take it in to see if it has the latest calibrations in it, or have someone you can trust tune it out.
Could be 1 to 1.5 seconds -seems like a life time when you are waiting for the engine to actually start to pick up rpm which would signal you that the shift has been made . I know when I drive a stick ,rpm picks up immediately and you don't have to wait for the engine to help to control the car. A6 feels like you are free wheeling!
With the '08-onwards A6, you get rev-matching on downshifts. This can sometimes make it feel like the car is accelerating momentarily (or rather decelerating less!) if you downshift when coasting (especially if you're expecting the lower gear to engage and engine-braking to start immediately). Of course, if you're down-shifting while braking then you'll never notice it.
