RSKeller; I also live in Alberta, generally things are way over priced. You should call Davenport in Calgary, they're overpriced also but may be a little cheaper then your qoute and the know vettes okish.....
I would reccomend just doing it yourself though, even with the cost of HP tuners and a wide band you will save ~1.5K$ and more importantly, you will learn your car.
When I do my cam, all will be replaced, why not? timing chain; get a katech C-5R one and try not to worry about it, get some good 0.080" wall pushrods, and as to springs.... get something decent, my mind is torn right now between comp 921's, Patriot gold extreme's, and PAC's...
There are good and bad experiences with pretty much every part, so make your best choice and live with it. I will never pinch pennies when doing this type of thing, but I don't throw hundreds out my windows as I drive to the instal shop either, thats where these sites come in.
Not sure really, the only things i have ever had done by someone else, was a valve spring swap that was 100 bucks. and for a cam swap its 400.
He is well known in the south, and is known by the top vendors on this sight, not shade tree. They are allways workingon something crazy.
I just looked it up in alldata, cam replacement - 23.8 hours w/ m6 trans(without valve springs). That comes to $16.80 dollars an hour. The shops that do them regularly can do the job much faster, but $400.00 is like charity work. Is your friend a tech working on the side after hours?
Actually I called Davenport and they were expensive. I will have my first quote do it, he also did my headers. I sent him a email yesterday and he quoted me 3500 for everything. I am happy with that
