I know this is simple but is any oil filter better than another for a C6?
Thanks!
Maybe someone has done some tests whereby they had multiple C6 engines in a test cell and ran them with diff filters for 100k miles and then compared engine wear
Barring that...I am quite sure if you put the AC Delco filter with clean Mobil1 when the DIC says so...you'll be fine and never notice a difference
I started using Pure One oil filters quite a few years ago and noticed the oil stays cleaner longer, and since the Pure Gold filters became available I use them on all my cars.
I've started using the new AC Delco UPF48R..same part # used in the ZR1. I figured if it was good enough for the new ZR1 is would be OK in my lowly LS3...and my Tahoe. Less than $10.00 each. I don't know if the guts are any different than the PF48 but the outer shell is quite a bit thicker.

The 48R filters down to a smaller micron, but I’ve read that an LS3's oil pressure goes up some. Is that bad? Not sure...

GM says the internals are the same as the PF48... "The Ultraguard Gold UPF48R filter is black in color, has a thicker exterior shell and can be identified as GM part number 12626224. The internal components are the same in both the UPF48R and the PF48 oil filters. The UPF48R can be used in applications where the PF48 is specified."

These filters come in a case of 12. You can purchase just 1 filter if you’d like. This is the AC Delco Gold Series oil filter that provides more filtering, etc.
Currently used on the 2009 - 2010 Z06 and ZR1 engines. Can be used in place of PF48.

I appreciate Whisky's question because of what Motorhead quoted from GM, shown above.
My questions are: if the internal components are the same in both filters, doesn't that mean the filtering media, too? And what does a 'thicker exterior shell' do?
Thanks for your time.

Reason: grammar tweaking

This is another quote from the same tech article. I'm assuming the thicker shell is for the LS9 increased oil pressure.
"OIL PUMP
The dry sump system uses a dual gerotor oil pump, one rotor for scavenge and one rotor for supply . The pump used on the LS9 produces greater volume and higher system oil pressure to provide adequate oil delivery under all conditions."

Filters are similar to tires in that they are a balance of tradeoffs. The main three capabilites are flow, filtration and capacity. In general, improved filtration comes at the cost of flow with capacity (and quality) being somewhat outliers.
The relatively new AMSOIL Ea Oil Filter uses a technology developed by Donaldson to achieve a very good balance of flow vs. filtration. FYI, AMSOIL also carries the well respected Wix Filters (as Wix partnered with Donaldson and AMSOIL to make the AMSOIL filters).
