I had a problem previuosly with a roll pin coming loose in the shfter linkage which left the trans stuck in 3rd gear at the track, 80 miles from home... My fix was to zip tie both ends of the rubber sleeves to the shafts. Unfortunatley that doesn't work too well, it caused it to be extremely hard to get into the 1st-2nd, 4th-5th & Reverse shift gates due to the rubber binding. There has to be a better solution to keep the sleeves in place to make sure the roll pin cant come out. I was thinking of just zip tieing one end and then putting lock-tight on the roll pins. Thoughts?
I stuck a bolt through mine instead of a roll pin. I just got a bolt that was slightly larger than the hole and drilled the hole out until the bolt just barely fit inside to keep it tight and without any slack in it.
Otherwise, just put a hose clamp around the shaft over the roll pin after it is installed so that it can't come out.

Good ideas!
I think I found another reason for my hard shifting issue though, the dog box where the shifter sets into has a worn out sleeve on the transmission end causing the shaft to bind against the sleeve. The shaft was totally void of any grease and had some grime on it so I cleand it all up and lubed it with some good grease and it seems to feel a lot better...
I'm not sure how well the grease will do when dust starts to imbed itself though...
