Ok... i see that a lot of people are replacing their clutch in their LS2 powered cars with the LS7 clutch. So the other day i was at the dealer for service, and i asked about that as i am going to need a clutch very soon in my 06. I wanted to know the difference in price between the LS2 and the LS7 clutch, and to see if there was any other items i would need to make that swap.
The service advisor punched in the numbers, and then told me that the LS2 and LS7 are the same unit. They only listed one part number for this kit (24248985), and that was the same part when he looked up LS2 and LS7.
My concern here is that i do not really want the same clutch that is in my car now, as it is already slipping badly after just 24K miles. I definitely need to upgrade, but do not plan on going wild with engine mods so i dont nessecarily need a clutch thats gonna hold 1000HP.
I have also read a few threads from folks who say that the "LS7 clutch is so much better than the stock LS2 clutch" - after they swapped.
So whats the deal? are they actually the same part or not?
The LS7 unit became the standard in all C6s in 2007 and superseded the old OEM LS2 part. If you have an 06, you have the older LS2 part number, which is not made any longer.
24k miles and you already need a clutch?? That sounds awfully short-lived to me. I have 47k miles on my 550 rwhp ProCharged 2005, and it's still holding fine.
