Default What Spark Plugs?

I have an 05 its stock with only a CAI (Vararam) and a Tune... it has run a best of 12.08 @ 115 mph... that was when it had 11,000 miles on it..

I drive it a few times a week (no stop & go traffic) and Drag Race it app 2 times a month... I looked at the plugs & they looked ok...

Any suggestions as to what plug I should go to.. or even "should I put in new plugs yet" (it now has 19,000 miles on it (still original plugs)

If I get a new set should I go 1 range cooler ? or stay with Factory heat range ?

Thanks.. Oops ..I see the exact same question... Mods, if you want you can delete this one.. I'll try myself..

I would stay with the stock heat range and use your favorite plug type as long as it isn't champion you will be OK.

Plugs loose there ability to fire the fuel over time, I have changed them for people who say they notice a difference in power and fuel economy.

When I raced is super stock we ran champs for the 1/4 mile and changed them every run, they were a great 1 time plug but didn't last for everyday driving. IMHO

Factory heat range will be fine. We run a lot of the NGK TR-55 on stock bottom-end cars without power adders. You can get the iridium plugs if you would like. Either one will be fine for what you are doing and a lot cheaper than something like a Delco plug.

I would certainly think that unless you go forced induction that you should stick with what you have.

. . . and Gene has the best price on AC-Delco Iridium spark plugs, and they also are best at preventing the "Service Charging System" message on your DIC.

Possible stupid question but would you set the gap different if you have a H/C car as opposed to a bolt-on?

I "think" a Head & cam IS a bolt on... however the gap can vary depending on how much compression, cam timing, spark advance, and type of driving you plan on doing....

Same with the heat range...if racing you want a colder plug, if a lot of DD in traffic go to a Hotter plug...

Some racers even "index" the plugs that is when they tighten them the make sure they know which way the gap is located inside the cylender....

I'm not saying plugs are the MOST IMPORTANT thing in an engine, but having the right plug, & correct gap can make a difference... JMO

So do you think at 63K on the originals it's time? I'm almost afraid to change them now. As long as I can keep running 11.5x I don't need the roll bar.

They're rated for 100k mile but yes, it might be time.

Reason we like them so much, besides the lowest resistance in a helicoil wire they are multi angle and allow you to bend the wire away from the exhaust manifold or header.

The irdium plug will last a lot longer before needing to be checked or changed is the advantage to them. NGK offer a few different irdiums but the AC-Delco's are less money by a few a couple bucks/piece. We offer them as well.
