After putting in an LG G5X3 cam, headers, etc (approx 100 extra HP), my clutch is acting funny.
First problem was when trying a second gear burnout at the drag strip last september, clutch pedal stuck to the floor. That same night I discovered the clutch fluid in the reservoir was low & black. I've since changed it about 10 times.
Today, under hard acceleration, the clutch pedal stuck to the floor again.
I replaced the fluid again, but it feels soft compared to before.
Your clutch is slipping and will continue until it is replaced. Try not to keep running it hard after the pedal stays on the floor or it will get real hot and melt the slave cylinder. This is what I did.
mines doing the same thing after adding my cam 2 weeks ago..I'm upgrading to the ls7 clutch and pressure plate..I wonder how you will know if the slave cylinder needs to be replaced??
I have a 2009 vette that is stock and I have noticed since the day I got it the clutch smells all the time and it sticks to the floor sometimes if I have to excellerate hard and at a higer rpm to pull out into traffic from a dead stop.
Also I have noticed that I grind gears shifting every now and then even with the clutch fully depressed.
I think that there is something defective with the clutch in these cars. I am under full warranty. Should I take it to the dealer and have them look at the clutch?
Any thoughts ?
thanks
Ed

Absolutely take it in. That is not normal behavior for a stock clutch in a stock car.
I had the same problem 3 years ago when I put in the cam. Take out the spring on the pedal assembly under the dash.
I did that 3 years and 25k miles and 380 drag strip runs ago and my stock clutch is still going strong.
And stay on flushing the fluid be fire and after each time you drive the car hard.
These steps have allowed my stock clutch to live a long life.
all of these will help, but are really band aids. I removed the spring and was thinking problem mostly solved, but I was wrong. Make sure if you remove the spring that the pedal is always returning to the top. If it hangs an inch or so you will have bearing problems later. Or at least I did.

Well, my factory clutch has 44445 daily driver miles, 380 5,000 to 6,000 rpm drag strip launches on it and it still drives me back and forth tomwork every day and gets 1.5 60 foots at will, so I am living proof that removing the spring doesn't kill the clutch. I do from time to time make sure the clutch is all the way up. One time my cruise control wouldn't work and that instance the clutch pedal wasn't all the way up.
To the OP, search this board for people having trouble with aftermarket clutches with power levels like yours and mine before you replace your factory clutch.....Sparo2, Isaih48 off the top of my head.
I always recommend this free solution as a first line of attack.

hey, I figured you'd be posting useful tips Thanks once again.
Do you have a quick how-to on removing that spring?

hi again Joe,
I finally got around to taking the spring out, I also replaced the fluid (do so every 2 weeks or so), then went out for a rip. Clutch feel is def. better, but it still sticks at high RPM. I think it's time to face the facts that my clutch is gone... at 31k miles

Stay on that fluid, change it after each time you drive the car for a few weeks....while you decide on a clutch. Might get pleasantly surprised as it cleans out and you aren't out anything but a couple of bucks for fluid.
And keep us posted on what you decide to go with if it doesn't come back.

I'll change it every day for a week... to see if it gets better. When I first read your post about changing the fluid last year, mine was pretty low (3/4" to an 1" left) & black. I've since flushed it about 20 times.
Whats your take on the window clip stopper mod, to 'raise' the floor? would that help too?
I'm pretty worried about aftermarket clutches myself... even swapping for an Ls7 setup.

Try this to lessen over centering and reduce clutch throw.
It's a 50 cent window track lock that clamps on backwards to the clutch arm nubbin. So that the head of the bolt engages the floorboard about an inch sooner. It has worked for me, and my stock clutch that has a tendency to stick to the floor:

Put the spring back! It has nothing to do with the clutch sticking to the floor.
I'll def try it. Does this bolt hit the actuall caprt to stop the pedal? If so, I could easily tape a block of the same thickness on th pedal arm to see if it helps beforehand, right?
