A4 to A6
Theorhetically, if a guy has to replace/repair his A4, is it a big deal to replace the A4 with an A6?
How does the speedo get it's info, meaning will the ECM need some tweaking to get correct info to the speedo display if an A6 is installed?

I would sooner sell the A4 car and just buy a cheap used A6 car before attempting that swap.
But your best bet would likely be to consult one of the top 4L60/4L65 (aka: A4) rebuilders that are out there and just retain that transmission.

The swap can be done but it would be VERY expensive.
