Default Another Problem. One Step Forward One Step Backward (Telescope wheel)

So I had a problem that was diagnosed to be my Drivers Seat Module. Its the little black box under the seat. The original problem was that upon entry/exit of the vehicle the seat and steering wheel would fail to consistently deploy/retract for the easy entry/exit function. Well I just replaced the Drivers Seat Module and the Power Seat works perfectly. BUT! Here's the new problem. the telescope wheel doesnt work at all. NONE. Not manually with the switch on the column or with easy entry/exit. Is this another faulty module or something more complex? P.S. The fuse is perfectly fine btw. Any thoughts/advise would be appreciated

I believe I heard about this before after seat module replacement.I would do a search on seat memory module replacement,The module may need to be reset with the tec2. Hope this helps....

PS also recheck connections under seat...

I think I've exhausted the search pretty well to this point. May have missed something but kind of doubt it. The tec2 reset sounds interesting, however given that the pwr seat functionality/memory/ and easy entry/exit works would that tell me it wouldnt be necessary? Also when the seat is in the process of moving for the easy entry/exit mode I can push the botton for telescope and it will stop the seat from moving. This shows me that there is some kind of connection being made for the telescope wheel. Also I've checked the connections under the seat 3 times. Believe me I'm very anxious in putting this problem behind me

A few things come to mind....Was the memory module new that you installed??If it was did you try putting the old one back and see if it restores the manual &auto move of the telescopic wheel???

Back to the my last post if I remember correctly it had something to do with the tech 2 and re marrying The memory module to the bcm!!

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-t...tech-link.html

CHECK OUT!!! This may be the link I was thinking of....may or may not apply......

PS.
My problem has been erratic seat movement.

Excellent, thank you. If you could please send me an email or pm that would be great. BTW they told me the device was new, but it sure didnt look it. Also I couldnt place the old one back in the car because I had to send the old one in to get the 'new' one. The latest update is that they're asking me to send this one back for a shot at another one. He didnt mention programing of any type so either the dealer was unaware, or he didnt think its required. Anywho, I'll look forward to your response with your 08'. Thanks again!

Will do.....There has been a lot of problems with the seat memory modules dating back to c5's...If it didn't look new, I doubt it was....Why did you have to turn in the old one if you did the repair yourself ???Did the dealer warranty just the part for you and you did the install??

Exactly. The dealer is 3 hours away. I research the problem and determined it was most likely the module. Called the dealer and they were willing to swap it out and mail it so I didnt have to go back/forth drop car off etc. Sounds like they're going to swap it out again for me.

Default help me!

ahhhh!!! I am pulling my hair out guys. I've now installed 3 different driver seat modules and still have a dead telescope wheel. Everything else works as stated above. I'm thinking theres a loose connection somewhere in the dash when I recently replaced the air condition fan sensor located behind the dash next to the ignition stat button. Anyone have any ideas?? I'm sooo desperate here

thank you thank you!!

Andrew, sorry you still do not have this resolved.I have not been back to the dealer yet as the sop have not come in yet.

Anyway I did some research and I found the following that applies for c5's,it would make sense as you will see that this has to be performed after seat module replacement.I think this is your fix. This calibration can be performed with the tech2 tool as well. This is what I was talking about in a previous post to you.

**************************************** **************************************** ****

Telescoping Steering Column Calibration

Telescoping Soft Stops

After replacement of the seat control module, it is necessary to program the telescoping soft stops. Each soft stop is a programmable end of travel that is set approximately 1.3 cm (0.5 inch) from the mechanical end of travel. The steering column has a soft stop set at each end of the telescoping in/out movement. The system uses soft stops to prevent wear on the system by ensuring that the steering column movement stops before it reaches its mechanical end of travel in any direction. The soft stops are initially programmed at the factory. The stop positions may be reprogrammed, which is necessary any time the seat control module is replaced, as described in the following procedure.

Telescoping Soft Stop Programming Procedure

1] Turn ignition to ON, leaving the engine off.

2] To set the telescoping in soft stop, press the telescoping COLUMN IN switch at least eight times or until the column moves.

3] Press the telescoping COLUMN IN switch and hold the switch until the column travels all the way in, and continue to hold the switch about a second after motion stops at the mechanical end of travel. The soft stop for the column in position is now set. The seat control module automatically goes back to the normal mode of operation.

4] Repeat steps 2 and 3, using the COLUMN OUT switch, to set the column out position soft stop

Default update

thanks for the bump. I tried to program the soft stops, but I have no response from the button on the column at all. None, not even after holding it down for 8 seconds or more. I read a few threads on here that said a cable could be unplugged on the back of the column from all the in/out they do. Actually heard there's a TSB about it, with a little red clip that fixes the problem. I've looked under the dash but cant seem to locate this unplugged wire or the red clip. Any ideas?

Just to make sure I understand you correctly you are activating the switch to the in position 8 times not holding it in for 8 sec correct????

The clip you are referring to I believe is only on the connector starting with m y 08.Unless your car already had this repair done you will not see the orange clip. The clip is on the harness at the base of the steering column, you have to remove the black panel near the pedals as well as the panel which would be near your knees when driving.Follow the wires entering the steering column heading toward the wheel an thats is the connector you are looking for.

I'm not sure this is your problem being you have never complained here about an active handling problem (steering wheel position sensor)all though the telescopic switch is in this connector as well!!!

I actually tried both since i got no response either way. Here's the link with a picture of the red clip. Just go to page 2 and you will see what i'm referring to.

Ive removed the panel near your knees but I cant seem to find the connector. Also not sure which other panel needs to be taken off either.

Ron-

First off, you are the man! I really appreciate you going out of your way to post the link with pix. That was a HUGE help.

To this point I've disassembled everything I need to get to the connector and check that its properly secured. I've also checked the other connections and cannot seem to get this wheel telescoping though.

I do know the telescope wheel switch is making a closed circuit though because when I'm entering/exiting the car and the seat is going back/forth I can hit the switch on the column and the seat will stop showing that it has interrupted the circuit. I figured that this is a good sign but just cannot figure out where the hang up is.

Anyone have any more ideas?
