I believe the grand Sport A6 has 2.73 gears, not 2.93. The 2.73 gears have been available since 2006 for the C6 and since 1997 for the C5, so fitting a 2.73 ring gear and pinion gear should be no problem in your 2008. But, first, you should verify what ratio you presently have.
