Default 1 to 4 Shift Lockout?

Has anyone been annoyed by this lockout feature. I have a '07 Z51 and have had this happen on a few occassions. I understand that there is an electronic part that simply plugs in somewhere and it is deactivated. Has anyone tried it and does it work well. Also I am wondering if I should attempt to do it myself or pay Corvette Paramedics to do it for an extra $50 or so. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What you are looking for is called a Cags shifter

http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...3&dept_id=1748

There are tons of company's that make them. Yes it is easy to install you just need to jack up the car and beadle to access the transmission. Its just plug and play from there. But the reason it shifts you from 1st to 4th. Is because you need to be above a certain rpm range before you will be able to shift into second. Its just a "gas" saver when your driving around.

You have 3 options: Get it programmed out with a tune, CAGS eliminator, or the CAGS blown smart fuse. I chose the smart fuse option because of its simplicity and because I didn't want to crawl under the car. I've got over 20,000 miles on the car, and I've had no problems with the 1-4 shift since installation at about 1,000 miles.

Make sure the resistors are functional too...I think some of the fuses are of poor quality and eventually fail, causing the engine CAGS code to activate.

Default 1-4 shift

I do not like that feature on my 09 and so I just accelerate a bit harder to get the rpms about 2000 and then it let's me shift into second.

the feature is there to insult you when you shift out of first too soon. stop shifting out of 1st below 2000-2500 rpm and the problem will go away.

Yeah its about the most annoying feature ever! I have it on my '07 car I just purchased and it drives me insane! I will be programming it out immediately. We have the "Skip-shift Eliminators" if you need to purchase one!

Default skip shift eliminator triggered code

had it for 2 years on 05 - today it gave "check engine light" - code indicated that it had something to do with skip shift feature.

Any ideas?

Also - what dos CAGS stand for?

Thanks

The smart fuse solution sounds very simple and effective. I checked it out on line and found a very good description of how it works and how to do it. I'll try it and let you know how it works. Thx for the information SSTEVEGS!

Default skip shift eliminator triggered code

the "feature" is one you can be sure was not wanted by any Corvette engineers, and is out of character for the car. It is there just so the car passes the EPA city driving cycle without incurring a gas guzzler rating. Driving in traffic or even easy in neighborhoods (sometimes speed bump to speed bump around here) can be frustrating - you have no reason not to short shift into second at low revs in many traffic situations, but may still want decent response which the Vette has even at reasonably low revs. Being forced into fourth gear is annoying and leaves you in 4th at such low revs that the car really can't pull.

The skip shift eliminator bypasses the circuit and has never tripped a code until yesterday - any ideas?

Very annoying feature. On both my 2006 and 2009 I installed the bypass the first week.

It is not just under 2000 rpm's. I shift mine at 1300 in the morning and it's fine. It's around 1800 rpm's that this kicks in. So, if your going to granny shift it, go all out. 1300 rpm's Baby!

I made the mod within an hour of bringing my new C6 home. That was five years ago.

A CAGS shift eliminator should come in the glovebox with every manual car that leaves Bowling Green. It's a safety issue.

It depends on the engine temperature before it locks out second.
