Default Brake Fluid Question

My 06 Coupe is 4.5 years old with 29K miles.

Is it time (or past time) to change out the brake fluid?

Better to go with DOT4?

Thanks.

I wondered about this last year, did some searches, and asked some questions. European cars recommend a fluid change out every two years because of moisture absorption in the fluid and its possible affect on ABS components. Our cars have no such recommendation. I decided to treat mine like a German car and had the dealer replace the fluid. If you do it yourself you won't get all of the ABS components exercised and flushed, but the dealer can.

Yes, most people we sell more DOT4 then the DOT3. We normally have some and if we don't we get more in a couple of business days, so if you're looking for some I'd be happy to help you out.

Euro may even require it, but it's a good idea to use the 2 year timeline. Our fluids are the same or similar to Euro.

Its time now, and I use DOT4 just because there is no reason to use two different fluids in clutch and brakes. When you do the brakes, do the "Ranger method" on the clutch also...its probably very nasty if it has not been changed.

I change Brake and Clutch fluid at least once a year and use Prestone Dot 4.
