Default Mixing Tire Brands?

I have factory style Goodyear runflats on the front and rear of my 2005 Coupe. The rears need to be replaced soon and the fronts have about 80% life remaining. I would like to try the Firestone runflats on the rear based on the good comments I have seen regarding tread life. Assuming they wear well, I would replace the fronts with Firestone runflats when they are worn.

My first thought was that this should not be a problem.

I don't run insane speeds or track my car. Anyone see any issues with different brand of runflat on one axle? I'm not proposing mixing on the same axle.

Thoughts appreciated!

Andy

This subject has come up numerous times lately. A search may help. I have Firestone's on the front and OEM Goodyears on the rear with no problems.

I currently have Toyo T1Rs on the front and R888s on the rear. Neither are runflats but the tires are very different from each other. I don't have any problems.

Others have already said it, but I'll assure you that you will have no problems.

LOTS of people run Drag Radials on the rear with the stock Goodyears up front. If that isn't proof enough, I don't know what is I ran my car with Mickey Thompsons on the back and the stock goodyears up front...you can't get a difference larger than that! lol. Stock, HARD runflat and one of the softest drag radials you can purchase. I had no problems at the track or driving too and from the track on them.

I also run PS-1 up front and Kumho on back. Having said that, you may feel a difference just like when you get all new tires, you adjust to the new rubber. As long as you know this and understand the different feel you are good. It would take a better and lot more agressive driver than I to feel any difference. By the way a difference does not nessasarly mean worse just different. Track hounds may not like the traction difference front to back but then again it may help. Just dont go and run straight to the edge, learn the feel.
hope this helps.

Thanks folks....I thought that it would be OK, just wanted to tap into the experience of those who have already tried this.

Donald Hall - Point well taken...like you, I'm not that aggressive on the road. I'm sure that I am not even close to the potential of the car. Couldn't bear the loss of a new toy!!

Thanks,

Andy
