Default not even chevrolet knows

I had to replace my ac belt because my crank pulley decided to go its own direction and i stopped by autozone to get the belt because it was too late for anywhere else. I brought it home and spent about 40 minutes fighting to get it on (feeling as incompetent as could be) I finally gave up because it seemed too short. first thing in the morning i called napa and they tried to give me the same size belt. I then call my chevy dealership and they tell me its the right one. i insist that its too short and they dont know what to tell me. I ask if they changed idlers mid way thru the year and they said no. they kept insisting that the 40 inch belt will work .Then they asked for my vin number and then again insisted that its absolutely the correct belt. They have no way of telling me the length(autozone and napa could) of the belt. I asked chevy what the length or a c5 04 ac belt was and the said.......we dont know but heres the part number. I then called napa and the cross reffed it and said it was 42 inches. I bought one and guess what? I was able to put in on in 60 seconds. How the hell can chevrolet not know that they used leftover c5 parts in my c6. This car was stock until I modded it. I cant be the only person that has the oddball combo of parts. Im still a lil pissed that I had to play detective to put a belt on this thing! the dealership is all but worthless. ..........and the wanted 89 bucks for the tiny little ac belt and i bought it for 12 from napa. any similar stories???

Ya those belts are a PITA to put on if you don't keep the belt inside all of the glooves on teh pulleys. But I never heard of this. Do any of your accessories look different than any other C6?

i had a c5 before my c6 but i dont remeber about the ac set up. either the ac and crank pulleys are bigger or it has some other idler set up. Its not in an easy place to get to but after 45 minutes of struggling with the short belt I threw that 42 inch sucker on in a minute flat!
