I am currently running kooks not coated, so the engine bay gets very warm when I sit in stop and go traffic in 80+ degree weather
header wrap was not recommended, but what about other products that help in reducing the heat in the engine bay? my main concern in the alternator/cable and starter
what are your opinions on these products
Thermo-Tec Header Manifold Blanket http://www.thermotec.com/products/full/14003/14003.html
HIGH-VELOCITY EXHAUST JACKETS http://www.thermotec.com/products/full/11240/11240.html
I was also thinking of fabricating a oem type heat shield but that might not be possible for a while, and i do not feel like taking the headers off
any other recommendations?
Wrap isn't recommended on street headers because it holds moisture and will destroy your expensive headers over (a relatively short) time, causing leaks, warping, cracks, etc...
I can't see this happening with the foil blankets since foil doesn't hold moisture. But the insulation is what you're concerned with. If it's lined with the thermal weave, then you'll have the same issues as wrap. If it's simply a foil overlay blanket, you should be good to go.
