Default JetHot on Headers... is it worth it?

When i make my big mod purchase in the future i was wondering if I should get the headers coated in JetHot to help with heat. I was going to do the thicker tunnel plate with the thermal-abs or whatever its called, but the less heat in the engine-bay as well can't hurt anything i would think.

Any thoughts?

I like it. I had mine done and then went to the track to measure the difference. My temps were significantly lower versus another car with the same setup as mine. I did a write up over a year ago I might be able to dig up.

IMHO They also look better coated and stay looking good longer.

I use Jet Hot coatings on my headers and cat back systems. IMO I think it helps keep heat out of the engine bay and in the headers promoting better exhaust flow, no scientific data just an opinion. Elite Eng. tunnel plate w/thermal also helps.

here is the thread I started with some data collection

Jet hot located in PA returned my headers on schedule within the 10 days they stated which was nice.

Last weekend at NJMP I did some temp checks against another header on a 346 H/C car with headers.

After we got in the garages I checked my temps and then the uncoated headers temp. I found my temps to be a bit over 200 degrees cooler (180 vs 380).

I also noticed that my temps would drop faster than the uncoated headers while we sat there. This was good news but threw off my initial testing because from the end of the session to the garage I was dropping faster so I don't know what my high temp was compared to the high temp of the uncoated.

We will be at WGI next month and I want to do more testing, but for now I am very happy. The coating is also very shiny so I wonder how long that will hold up.

My car was roughly 100-150 degrees cooler than another ecs built 427 without coating. This was the final test and I am 100 percent sure jethot is doing what it suppose to do.

Anyone that is looking to keep temps lower should consider doing this especially if you are putting new headers on...

I did my whole American Racing header setup, even the center section. I don't have an numbers but I do believe it makes a difference with the temps, but for me the #1 reason was looks.

Cost?

I was just considering this last week as engine temps are getting a bit high in traffic?

I have a set of 1 3/4" coated headers on my LS3 08 that came off my LS2 06. They have approx 50,000 miles on them and still look new. Mine are manufactured by melrose and are mild steel coated inside as well as the ouside. Would Not put a set of headers on my car without them being coated.

Thanks Wicked and everyone for the responses. I plan to go with the LG SuperPro Long tube headers so ill have to work with the guys there to see about getting them coated. I don't hear about many people getting LGs coated but im local here in the Dallas area so hopefully i can work something out with them.

I have the Kooks 1 3/4" they came from Maryland Speed [a vendor here] Jet Hot coated for no charge. They Have been on my car for 2 years with no issues still they look like new. btw the fit, finish and ease of install of the Kooks is outstanding. Good luck.

I'm a believer in coating headers. The coating promotes denser, more potent fuel/air charges by insulating the engine bay from exhaust heat. Also, it accelerates the pulsed-vacuum effect on “tuned” headers, resulting in more effective scavenging of cylinders. The increased velocity of exhaust gases produced by higher exit inertia not only clears each cylinder more quickly; it also draws in the next fuel/air charge more efficiently...and they just look nicer.
