Hey there guys Im new to this forum and was hoping to get some info. I want to put an intake on my 2005 convertible but noticed that there are a lot of options for intakes. I have narrowed my thoughts down to 4 and was wondering who here has had experience with either of these intakes. I was thinking of going with a Vararam snake charmer, lingenfelter, Slp blackwing, or K&N.
I am also planning on doing the stock exhaust mod this upcoming weekend if that makes any difference.
Some people have the good fortune of never having a problem, but there have been MANY MANY posts of people with Vararams that started coming apart on them.
I had the LPE on my car until I went the S/C route. The LPE looks like an OEM quality piece and draws in cooler air through the cut radiator shroud and gives you cool induction sounds as well.
Vararam is garbage, great design but epic fail with the implementation. I took the POS Vararam off and went with a Airaid so far it was a great decision. Speaking of which, if you want a Vararam I have the new design and old design sitting in the garage...
I have the VR and love it it seals great and as for the people that suck water up in it well they just need to learn to not try and drive thru a lake or drive slower thru the water in front of them as I DD my vette I've driven it thru some pretty deep water just know if it's too deap don't go thru.

Just as any Corvette driver of reasonable intelligence should do anyway when faced with heavy rainfall/flooding conditions, even with a stock airbox/air intake unit still on the car.
Personally I like the K&N/Killerbee/Airaid with an opened shroud.
I have the Airaid with an open shroud and did not notice any performance loss when switching from the Snake Charmer to the Airaid. I did notice that my idle smoothed out and was less jumpy and the 50 mile an hour surging went away.

I have never considered the "sucking water up" to be the problem with Vararam. Those people are clearly going through water that is too deep, although it would still be far less likely to happen with another intake.
The problem with Vararam is and always has been the fact that so many have shown the problems with it coming apart due to poor quality in the build
With the Vararam, just make sure you follow the instructions, most issues are caused by installers just jamming it together. I've had mine for 7 months now, followed the instructions to the book, took general advice from the forums, was careful with assembly and with the newer clips it provided a great seal, took it apart once and it was still in great shape. You can definately feel the Air Ram effect over the stock filter and I dont have any surging issues that someone previously mentioned.
