Over the last week I have been getting a message on my DIC that says "service column lock" and the car wont start. It has happened at various times of day but my own observance has been that its happend most often when the car has been sitting in very hot weather, today was 95 and I had the same thing happen. Today was different in that, normally you get that noise from the steering column when you press "start"...today I got no noise but all the accessories got power so I assume my battery is good. Im trying to find anybody else with this problem or known issues as well as what parts i need to fix it.
I had my battery checked and was told it was fine, today the car decided not to start after the battery test. I no longer hear the column motor turning on when I press start and I called chevy and they said my column lock motor might have gone bad. Its throwing an engine light but I have no way of reading the code.
I'm having the same problem with my '05 C6. Mine is intermittent, happening about 6 times in the past 3 weeks. What I noticed was if I left the car alone for 30 minutes, it would start next time I tried. Trying repeatedly or waiting only a few minutes does nothing. Took it to the dealership who was glad to charge me $700 to replace the column module... not a fix. Battery is 2 years old - installed at the dealership and when it starts there is not a hint of weak battery. It is either a yes or no on the ingnition. It's back in the shop for a second time... who knows what they'll replace this time.

It's not the battery. Here's a link, I went through the same thing.

Also, it's the column lock mechanism that is going out, it's an electric motor.
