Default Electric Cutouts vs Open Headers

Hey guys, in terms of sound, are open stock manifolds vs cutouts the same sound level?

Are you talking about the difference in sound between starting the car up with cutouts and then starting it up with nothing bolted to the manifolds? If so, open manifolds will always sound louder and more high pitch. Either way, they're both a lil loud.

I have LT headers and full 3" exhaust with dual cutouts. Needless to say, I run them open all the time. I'll be buying some electric cutouts soon to quiet the sound down.

Yes, I'm talking about electric cutouts welded on the H-pipe VS open manifolds - no H pipe/mufflers. Would they roughly be about the same sound level?

Does your exhaust have the turndowns for cutouts but no electric device to control them?

That's correct. My car has no electric cutouts right now. So they're open all the time. It's pretty loud and after almost a year I'm getting ready to install a pair fo E-cutouts. It gets annoying after a while...interior starts to vibrate, radio has to be turned up to listen to music, etc. But man let me tell you, when I hammer the pedal she screams and I've been complimented on it several times. Guys at the track always ask me what type of exhaust i'm running.

Open headers wil dump the exhaust right under you, so I think they would be louder in the car. My cutouts are behind me so I would guess it's a little quieter when driving. Probably sounds the same out of the car.

My 02 TA had electric cutouts right after each header. I gained 11 hp when opened (can't remember torque). I could definitely feel the loss of torque down low. Higher gears felt good. It would rattle houses and knock things off my house walls when I started her up in the garage. I miss that mullet rocket.
