Default Need help choosing heads

I have a 2005 M6 Z51 with 4.10 gears, LG super pro long tube headers, varram intake and a LG G6X3 cam. my dyno was 414rwhp and 381 torque.
Question i have if i want to make more power and want to install heads, what would be a choice for this car.

Thanks for the help.

A nice set of Trickflow 225's would work very well for you http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-t...dy-inside.html

Trickflow 225s are hard to beat for an out of the box head on an ls2. You are going to also want a Fast intake manifold to take advantage of the trickflows.

Exactly. That's what I use.

Or, for a more budget oriented cylinder head that you can still use your stock (or modified stockers) rockers on, you might check out the PRC Stage 2.5 LS6's!

They are basically a ported version of your LS2 head, with larger 2.02"/1.57" valves, dual springs, and full CNC porting and valve job all for about $1600!

Let us know if we can answer any questions you might have about the PRC or any other cylinder heads

I opened that link provided and see data for a 440LSX a 454LSX turbo and a 427 LS3. The vast majority of us arent running such big gun engines. I would like to see some more 'common' TF head installs with data provided. A 1200hp monster motor might look great but its not real world for the masses here on CF. IMO.

You can even look at the TFS 220cc fast as cast heads. At about $1680 they are the best bang for the buck hands down. I personally can't see very much power being left on the table in comparison to the 225's and the $700 price difference.

the vendor submitted the link to show he sells the heads and that the 3rd link down on his page is a link to buy the tf 225's. i doubt he submitted the link to show the other stuff. it was just easy for him to copy and paste a link from an old for sale thread than to redo it here without the other stuff in it. i personally gained nearly 60hp from these heads on my ls2 which is what the OP drives also. LSCHLEM on here also gained as much as what i did with the same heads. The tf 225's work wonders on an ls2 car with a good cam and a ported fast

Well, thats real nice of you to answer for them but I would rather see dynos and data for the 95% percentile LS2/3's who dont run over 1200hp TT cars. I was hoping for more than "buy these heads from us, heres our website" spiel. You're right though, it was alot easier for them rather than trying to explain why these heads would be a good choice.

Take a look at these: http://www.livernoismotorsports.com/...t.phtml?p=1352

I have their CNC Ported Stage 3 GM LS-Series Cylinder Heads on my 07 LS2 and am very happy with them, just hit over 92,000 miles last weekend.

there have been quite a few of discussions on here about how the the use of tf 225's are the best bet for your ls2 if you aren't looking to go the budget route and if you want some serious power from the heads. usually only ls2 cars will purchase aftermarket heads like the tf 225's b/c the ls3 heads work so well on the ls3 cars already. only thing the ls3 cars need done may be some port and polish and maybe a little milling.

i researched my results and this is what was done to my car in order over the past few years with the appropriate dyno results....i gained 56hp from the tf 225 heads...

1st G5x3 cam, headers, and exhaust=422/408
2nd G5x3 cam, headers, exhaust, cai, and fast=436/414
3rd G6x3 cam, headers, ehxaust, cai, fast and tf 225 heads=490/442
4th is same as third but with mcleod clutch and 4.10 gears=497/451
5th is same as 4th but with electric water pump and 100mm maf=510/457
6th is same as 5th but with new rps clutch=526/478

some people want to figure a 10hp loss through 4.10 gears and some don't. so it's up to anyone if they want to add 10hp to the 4th, 5th, and 6th results b/c of the 4.10 gears. no biggie to me.

Anyone know what the advantages/disadvantages of using tricflow 215s vs. 225s ?

(I hope this isn't seen as a thread hijack...my appologies if so, that is not my intention....instead I hope this question will enhance this thread....Tks )

Thanks for informative data.
Im making 522rwhp on my S/C'd LS2 with stock H/C. Im thinking about doing a mild blower cam and heads down the road but still exploring which way I want to go. Im a big fan of doing things once. Again, thanks for taking the time.

no problem. wasn't trying to be a dick in my first post. if i came across that way, i apologize. 522 sounds about right for a s/c ls2 and assuming bolts with stock h/c. now as far as which cam and heads to go with on your application i have no clue since the s/c changes things up b/t your fi build and my na build. sure someone could advise you what cam and heads to use in the c6 fi section.

yeah me too, may give you a run for your money with a big cam, fast, new clutch and the mz6 tranny(figure all that would be good ~.6)...since I don't have a stake in things like you do, would like to see a comparison of the PRC 227 and TF, maybe Texas Speed can chime in?

I went with a ported and polished ls3 head and intake for my ls2 and was very pleased with the gains. It was more cost effective than the aftermarket heads. I now have trick flow race heads for my F1C supercharged application but my friend is still running the ported ls3 heads with great results. TrickFlow heads are a great head. If money isn't an issue I would definately consider them. Compare prices vs. hp results between aftermarket heads and ported and polished stock ls3 heads. Or you can go all out and have the Trick Flows ported and hand matched to the intake. Just my .02
