Believe me...it sneeks up on you and will break when you least expect it. It would be smart to periodically inspect the case for hairline cracks to reduce the "surprise" effect.

good lord... what were you doing when it let go? stock or modified?

if i can just get a straight answer on needing a new torque tube with the z06 rear and trans i might just do that haha

Now ive looked into updating to an 06 diff. and while i feel this is the best option, it is amazingly expensive. by the time you get an 06 core, and have it built by DTE, or RPM, or whomever its 3-5k + the new housing on the 05 trans.

So my question is this, any of you put any real power through an 05 diff? is the DTE 05 diff build worth it?

Thanks guys!
Here's another option. Swap over to a 3-rib C5 diff.

I broke my 05 diff on street tires (345 INVOs) and didn't have a lot of money to even buy another 05 diff. So a fellow CorvetteForum buddy told me about the C5/C6 diff conversion. I went out and bought a used C5 diff ($550) from a salvage yard and fabricated a bracket to mount it and bingo. Problem fixed and I ended up with a way stronger diff.

Since then I've done 3 other C5/C6 conversion for a few buddies and so far so good.

No diff is bullet proof but when it goes KABOOM it'll be much cheaper to replace than a C6 diff.

Just my .02 cents.

BTW I only have boltons and running low 11's on ET Streets.

yea ive been looking into that idea as well.. what did you use a c5 z06 diff?? how hard was it to fab up the bracket? and everything else just bolts right on so all i need is the C5 diff??

i just want mah car not to spit its guts out at me first time i take it to the track haha!

Yes, I used a diff out of a 02 ZO6.
The bracket wasn't that hard to fabricate...just time consuming. It doesn't take me much time now. You'll need a 1/4" aluminum plate welded to your cradle as a mounting base.
Everything bolts right up. No need to buy anything special other than the mounting bracket.

Since you're running some pretty high numbers I'd recommend getting a built C5 diff, especially if you're planning on hitting the dragstrip with sticky tires.

I did the C5 2004 Z06 diff too but its got gears and two hardened shafts for a stage 3 kind of strength. It has the center mount fabricated and a plate welded to the cradle. I like that if I blow up a diff its a 700 dollar core instead of 2200 for a C6 core.

I would do it this way again if I was starting all over.

Power? How does a 418 with a maxxed out 2200 paxton s/c on it sound? I use MT et streets and it dead hooks. If the diff handles all this, its a solid fix for the 2005 weak diff issue.

I don't tink your Z51 has a diff cooler...unless you put one in yourself. The only Z51 models that came with the diff cooler were export cars.

But if you want the diff cooler, you can always have it installed. Plenty of guys have done this.

As for your guy not being comfortable doing this swap, just have him look into it. It's not very complicated. I PMed you some additional info.

Evil-Z51,

I am driving my 2005 MN6 back to RPM in Indiana in a couple of weeks to have a C6 Z06 rear end with a level 5 transmission to match (main shaft, housing, etc.) installed for $5000. Putting an end to the problem.

I believe any diff out of a C5 ZO6 is good enough. They are all 3-rib designs.

I did go for 2007 trans and diff from Z06 and that works grate except I have messages in me car all the time “service steering column “ do to on sensor less on 07 trans. If I was doing this to day I would consider ; http://www.zip-corvette.com/ProductDetails/ProductDetails.aspx?pid={9375779d-8043-4530-abad-eabdda45a06b}&gid={30672a20-ca50-41b4-bdd2-d05df0218d3d}&GroupName=C6+Differentials &pname=06-10+6-Speed+Transmission+Case+Extension&Refere r=&Alias=&ptct=SGR-SR&CTitle=&

And C& Z06 diff. But the gear radio is much better in Z06 trans.

Default i HAVE

I have a 2005 C6 A4 trans car and working on diff up grade and stall converter before I do my supercharger install. What I think I'm seeing is that a C5 Z06 diff will work in my car. Another company told me that I could only use a manual non Z06 diff. DTE said I could do a built C5 diff and brace for my car and they would make the diff bracket and I could do the install without any modification to my car. Bolt in only. They also recommended a dff brace.
THANKS RAYZZZ MY CORVETTE LIKES MY MONEY
